BioShock is a unique game that mixes a spine-chilling setting illustrated with art deco art and architecture, sci-fi themes of bio-genetic mutation and self-modification, a deep storyline with open-choice freedom to interact with the world as you choose, and first-person action that requires you to think every time you pull the trigger. After your plane crashes into icy uncharted waters, you discover a rusted bathysphere and descend into Rapture, a city hidden beneath the sea. Constructed as an idealistic society for a hand picked group of scientists, artists and industrialists, the idealism is no more. Now the city is littered with corpses, wildly powerful guardians roam the corridors as little girls loot the dead, and genetically mutated citizens ambush you at every turn. - IGN

  • Biologically mod your body with plasmids - genetic augmentations that empower you with dozens of fantastic abilities
  • Take control of your world by hacking devices and systems
  • Upgrade your weapons at Fire-For-Effect stations located through Rapture
  • Pick up materials in the city to modify them at U-Invent kiosks
  • Explore an incredible and unique art deco world hidden deep under the ocean, vividly illustrated with realistic water effects

I concur. The game comes out tomorrow and is going to be one of the major contenders for game of the year. It's currently at 98% on Gamerankings.com.

Also, you can get it for PC if you don't have a 360, but hey! Get a 360, get this, and we can play Halo 3 next month, aight?

I'm definitely going to pick BioShock up tomorrow. I lost my chance getting it when Toys 'R US put the game on shelves a week early, but some people managed to get it.

Edited the first post with information about the game for those who don't know anything about it.

It looks amazing and i preordered it for PC, but i'm thinking about not buying it because i'm afraid my comp may not handle it.

My comp excels in all the system requirements except for the graphics card which is just barely over minimum requirements. It only has 128MB, albeit it is one of the newest GeForce Cards (8600GT). I can run oblivion on max graphics with almost no problems though, so who thinks my comp will cope? I have a 2.4Ghz intel core 2 duo, and 2GB memory.

I've been waiting for Bioshock for a while.

I was fascinated by the trailers and the tidbits of gameplay on YouTube.

It looks mad creepy, but hey, who doesn't like a mad creepy game?

I've been playing the game all week and I can say that it is AMAZING. Get it the second it's available to you all, because it's the best 360 game out right now.

I have been excited about Bioshock since it's announcement. I thought it looked great and it seems to be a must-buy for 360 owners. The closest Toy's R Us to me is like and hour away though, so I'll just wait until Walmart starts stocking it and then pick it up.

I'm downloading the demo for PC right now. And I'm pretty sure that when I've played , I'll be too scared to get the full game. I mean, HAVE YOU SEEN THE TRAILERS?? Omg, I'll have to buy some of those granny diapers in order to play this game.

@Chred2AKrisp:
You'll be fine with your PC. It may not run at the highest settings, but it'll sure run at medium at least.

In all honesty, I can't see why this game would be that fun. But, I'm downloading the demo right now to find out

I bought it the 21st and it's pretty cool. I'm really searching around for things rather than running through the whole game. BioShock won't be good if you just rush through the game, I bet. I'm about 6 hours through the game so far and enjoying it. :)

Demo finally finished downloading. I installed it, turned it to 1024x1024 (I think), had the game pause itself twice, loads take forever, then have it crash loading the actual city after the ride down.

I restarted it, kept it at 1024x768, and the game ran fine. I was having a lot of fun, though it also crashed. This time, though, it was after you see the cooing mother and walk into the restaurant
and atlas asks you to find his family
, still around 10 minutes in. I was surprised by the controls, mainly because aiming was more difficult then I was use to. But after I had that fight with the woman and almost wet myself jumping backwards missing my lightning while she scratched my face off made me think better of it. If I can find a way to stop it from crashing, I will most likely buy the game.

It's on Steam? Sweet! Should I get it on there then or buy a hard copy?

I played the demo on xbox live and it was pretty fun. The graphics were amazing. I'm still deciding if I should pick up a copy though.

Beat the game last night. By far the best game I've played this year (which well, isn't saying all that much. I'm trying to really think what I've played this year... DiRT, Crackdown, Lost Planet, Guitar Hero 2, and that's about it). The game was really predictable with where it went other than a minor thing that I didn't think would happen but ended up being really really awesome.
You become a Big Daddy.

I played through on Normal, rescuing the Little Sisters instead of Harvesting them. Likely going to play through on Hard and Harvest them after I get moved next week.

The game doesn't look to great on PC, at least the demo. If they added anti-aliasing, though, it would be flawless. Just I hate seeing jaggies.

I'll have to check it out more before I buy it though.

Doesn't look like it. **** this game, though. To play the demo, I have to set it on medium settings which looks quite terrible for this game. If not, I get catastrophic crashes. I'll pick this game up when A. it drops in price (AT LEAST $20) and B. the crashing is fixed. Pity, I liked the atmosphere in the beginning.

There has been no crashing, and i'm running on widescreen 1440x900 I have a 128MB Nvidia 8600 GT card.

but there's no AA in the final PC version either. Which is a major letdown. Still amazing game though.

Meh. I don't like playing bad games: I'll stick with my PC, which runs games with higher detail than a 360 and better control method.

/consolewar.

Also, don't QQ about your box being outdated, Cimson. There's a cheap alternative out there for the mases.

The computer isn't even remotely outdated. It's a known issue that the demo crashes often. You can look it up on a few forums.

Yes. The demo. But you were saying the DEMO crashing put you off getting the game. The real game doesn't crash.

Just beat it 2 hours ago! Holla at me boys! Ah man it was so amazing, and my ending nearly left tears in my eyes. Oh why must all good things end? Oh well, time for metroid prime 3.

Yeah, the game's incredible.

I played it on the 360, so no crash problems for me:) Even if there were, I would have booted my PC back up, even if I could only play for a couple of seconds. That's how much I love this game.

Bioshock renewed my love for video games again. I never thought I'd say a game's better than Resident Evil 4, but that's just how good this is.

The atmosphere is incredible. The water effects are second to none. You will most likely crap yourself before finishing. Seriously, this game is scary.

This is the video game equivalent of a Stanley Kubrick film. Yeah, it's that good.

I played the downloadable demo at my friends house, and it made me ***. I've been bugging him to buy it ever since (I don't have a 360, so I can't get it myself).

So, I am supposed to spend $50 based on a game I haven't played at all because it crashes excessively on high settings? That's like buying a TV that automatically turns off on high settings in the store because "The home version DEFINITELY doesn't do that."

**** that, son.

I heard this game is super dope, but I don't have the money to buy it at the moment lol. I think Gears of War was the last 360 game i've bought, lol. but i'll look into renting or borrowing this game from someone.

not when that claim is backed up by the people who have paid for the home version. Like me. I haven't heard anything about the normal game crashing. No review mentions it. No one has said anything about it. I haven't experienced a crash once. So I have to conclude you're wrong, and the PC game is worth getting.

There's also the fact that this game is just as good (if not better than) Resident Evil 4.

Seriously, out of all the people who'd like this game, you'd probably like it the most CK.

I probably would, but the fact is if they company can't put enough work into making the demo, our first impression of the game, at least work at it's best, then I am not spending $50 on it.
