Better Streams?

Even though the Internet at Genesis 2 was crap, I'm disappointed by that stream. At this point in the game's life (10 freakin years), one of the only legit ways to create hype, get more players is and keep the game alive is to have a kick *** stream for every big tournament.

Has anyone tried contacting Team Sp00ky/iPlayWinner? I think if someone with good writing skills and knowledge of the Melee community sent them a message (our current state, maturity of our scene, differentiate us from the negative stigma we seem to get from the Brawl community), we just might be able to convince Sp00ky to stream some huge Melee tournaments.

And before you say "lol fighting game peeps won't even consider the Smash community", Sp00ky was going to stream Melee at CEO 2011, but didn't due to lack of entrants :urg:

The Genesis 2 stream had ~1000 viewers. Sp00ky averages 30 000+ per stream. Obviously Melee isn't at SF4 or MVC3s level, but I think it's worth a try. Have any TO's tried contacting them?

I think one of the bigger problems with Melee streams is that the venues used lack amazing internet connections that SF/Marvel tournament venues have and as amazing as sp00ky is I don't think he can magically make the internet better at a venue. Having said that, it is worth a shot; I mean, the worst he can say is no XD.

I don't really know if this can be even used as a legit excuse. If you checked the brawl stream it was almost HD quality with little to no lag. The melee stream was crappy, lag-ridden, and has interlace issues. Now im not saying that DBR did the wrong thing they did what they could I just have to agree with the OP on this issue.

Now why would I- or anyone for that matter -do something that dumb XD

And yes that's not the only problem; however it does exacerbate the other problems such as equipment quality and whatnot. One of the big things about sp00ky's streams though is that there are people sending in donations so that the streams can run smoothly and the equipment can be kept up to date. Then again they also have prizes to give to the people that donate due to their connections with MadCaz and other such supporters so I doubt that anyone in the Melee community could pull a sp00ky =(

At this point I would say lets put our hopes into Sabergaming, they sponsored Genesis 2 and from the looks of it it looks like they're going to go hard in the melee/brawl community when they start up so thats a big plus in my book.

Once we get one person sponsoring melee its over, thats like instant coverage right there.

To be honest, whether the venue has internet or not, Genesis (or any other big tournament for that matter) should have something similar to the setup thread where they have people sign up to bring their 4G phone/4G stick w/ laptop to be used for the stream.

Just a thought, but maybe someone from the NY area could actually get into contact with sp00ky; from what I've seen, Melee tournaments have started happening at the Next Level Arcade in Brooklyn which is where sp00ky streams the Guard Crush series.

This issue is we need a real front runner in the community to do this, randoms from the forum aren't enough we would need one of the better TO's or more prominent players in the community to organize this. Without the backing from the bigger players, albit the smaller part of the community. It really doesn't matter what we do.

you could just go to the tourney :)

:phone:
That's always an option unless you live in an area where tournaments are to far away. Most of the time there's acouple tournaments in the area, but it would be amazing if those who couldn't afford it could watch. It also is something that would help increase the number of people that play melee.

Better streams=Melee looks more professional=More People respecting melee=Possible reinstatement on the bigger circuits (MLG,Evo)

Obviously thats the best possibly outcome and being hopeful, but in truth it should be our goal if we want the melee community to grow.

better organization and taking internet costs into venue fees would be good.

a TO or pillar of the community who's committed to setting up streams at all the big nationals (i.e. someone who's going to be at all the nationals) should talk to VGBC, sp00ky, Saber or whoever to get more organized

also i think a lot of people would donate if their was a place to donate ahead of time. again, organization is key.

This.

If more of the TO's or players stepped-up this wouldn't really be as big of a deal. The issue is many won't, or if they do they're not actively telling us about it on the boards anyway.

At this point it seems like its sponsorship or bust.
