The Social Thread is the combination of the best and the worst. It's everything about these boards compiled into one thread, basically.

Threads off the top of my head that I like:
Ask a Question
Things you may not know
That one MATTS! tier list thread
Hype-kus

Worst:
The Backroom poll made by asianaussie, where 60% of the community voted for a Backroom and 15 year old me failed at convincing people it's a bad idea :troll: (I'm always right)

^^That's what I was thinking (about the social thread). It's just weird to me. People who make an swf account and then hate the social thread/EVERYTHING about this forum lol. Usually the same people who tend to complain about everything about this forum...

(Not really directed at serge lol. Just kinda followed the pattern)

Worse threads I can think of recently obv:
Why is Isai the best (or something like that)
Smash 64 players who ****

Best Thread:
Social
G-Mang?

"Smash 64 players who ****" served its purpose. But I admittedly have a soft spot for troll threads. Actually, maybe not, because I thought the G-man stuff wasn't that funny, especially the sequel (the Australians are going to be all over my nuts for this).

What about that Hustling guide by Battlecow, it was pretty funny. Battlecow may have a lot of things about him that rub people the wrong way, but you gotta admit he makes good threads.

oh my god I almost forgot, COOLBLADE_1992. Gathering young and handsome men, declaring war on iXi, too good.

Dude, Forgot about the hustling thread. That thread is legend.

Also, I like battlecow :p.

I go through phases. Right now I'm in one of my Battlecow fanboy phases!

Everyone remembers it because occasionally one clicks on the thread but not "last page" on accident or something, sees the first page, and decides to skim it for the hell of it. Or just read it for history's sake. And then they see your comments about how a Social Thread is useless because it won't prevent spam in other places or something.

It happens to everyone.

WELL TBH the thread serves a GREAT purpose, but it didn't really reduce spam lol.

I shouldn't have been chatting regardless though, it's the corner stone of this place.

If it doesn't reduce the spam, it served as a "trashcan" for dealing with irrelevant threads in a less annoying way than locking them (doesn't snuff out the conversation completely). I actually think DMoogle moving threads there was really smart modding (/meatriding), and I don't see it in the Melee boards at all, just locking potentially funny topics and making people mad

I know lol, I've moved many threads or sections of other threads that didnt belong, in to the social thread.

It's some what annoying though since when you do that, it sorts it by time posted, so some times they got lost in the social thread a page or two back and no one ever sees them again :(

These old threads with malvadramas were nice too. With the legendary "tell me his name and I'll **** him for you" or something. I also really like sheer's picture thread.

Worst thread = player tier lists, all it did was create unnecessary child/teen epeen drama. Anyone who actively actually PLAYS at any time can see who the best players are, no need for that ****. Before someone attacks me and says im salty for not being on it, i quit before those threads were even made. Nice try.

The tier list thread is just bad because its pointless. You dont need a list to tell you whos good and who is better than who. People just wanted other people to think they were better than they actually were.

Not enough evidence in Online play for a sufficient list besides word of mouth, doesn't really work the same because of that. Maybe if reasoning was backed up with videos somehow or *cough* tournament results *cough* it might be a little bit better. I think it's silly but it's not hurting anything.

Worst threads are the ones that ask questions that are already in the index thread.

worst thread: Anything by hammerheart. Dude wasn't funny (get at me SK)

best thread: in all honesty probably Fireblaster's hitbox thread or something actually useful like that. So refreshing when you get actual smash knowledge from smashboards.

I kinda like them not for the purpose of getting people to think I'm good, but to use as a rubric for my own improvement. I kinda consider it an accomplishment to get known enough through play so that people start mentioning your name on there. I know my opinion of myself is always going to be higher than what the average opinion is, so some perspective is always nice. And yea its a video game for fun but I'm competitive lol.

This actually got some response, what? Gotta let it fester a bit before the infallible "clubba is right about everything" official list is put up.

Worst thread: social thread during anime talk

Best Thread: Btt/btp/1p mode records, because I made an AWESOME EXCEL SPREADSHEET

I like how it sounds like it was SK fighting a one man war for the side of justice when really 40% of the community agreed with him lol

The tier list thread was kinda interesting for me since I don't play online much. It was cool to know who is considered good.

Oh, I can get some old posts of you enjoying the coolblade_1992 thread. You just obviously got personally perturbed after he sent you disturbing images when he was getting himself banned, judging by your reaction - and I can't blame you, my condolences (I suffered a similar fate when Near did the same, and if you remember I was PO'd too, at the time anyways - I guess I'm not much for holding grudges).

I kinda like them not for the purpose of getting people to think I'm good, but to use as a rubric for my own improvement. Yep. Me going from people saying "who?" when my name was mentioned as a decent player to near the top stroked my ego, or something. But seriously, I just like improvement (not competition), the most fun thing to me in anything is to feel my improvement. That's just me.

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to say "all you nubs aren't old enough, why back in my day..." but I didn't expect it from a 08'er, lol

I like how it sounds like it was SK fighting a one man war for the side of justice when really 40% of the community agreed with him lol
It kind of was :troll: OK, I got some help from Battlecow or DMoogle or whatever, but I did most of the arguing, fo realz.

meh, i changed my mind pretty quick on that one ... i probably thought it would be good for smash 64's stature to have a back room or something dumb like that
