best way to punish a dash atk?

i've started to play SSBM a week ago and i have one friend that play fox very noobly... yet effective against everyone else at my play level xP he just dash atk FTW and connect usmash at ~80% that's all his game ¬¬' but i just can't find a way to punish this **** dash atk, i can see it coming, CC it but i end doing dtilt ¬¬ or i shield grab into dgrab into foward smash but it works only till 50% after that he get too far. also i could stop it some few times with a shuffl'ed Fair but most of times i don't know what to do or i do too little damage... what's the best punishment for that?

I agree, also you may want to get in a few up-tilts or try to for an aerial attack.

Shieldgrab like every time. If he goes slightly past you SHFFL a neutral air out of shield.

If you know the dash attack is coming, just do a simple jab to cancel it. Then, follow it up with something.

shield grab him and if you are having trouble fighting him after having grabbed him you should watch more videos.

Now if the case was him dash attacking you from behind or through your shield so you cannot grab him, shffl dair out of shield.

If you want to CC to grab, CC to a JC grab since holding down will force you to dtilt with Z. Or just CC to c-stick smash attack (probably Fsmash if he stays in front of you). Fthrow and dthrow work in the low to mid percents to fsmash if they can't tech the throws that well. After that upthrow has better follow up options. Just watch any good Marth vs fox on FD for upthrow ideas.

then at mid 40s up tilt turn around up tilt etc.

Dair, Grab, Uthrow, Ken combo.

Really all you need is the Ken combo part. The other three set up for it.

or the shield grab
or wavedash if you know when he is going to dash attack. you have many options after the wd
or you can run away and side b to gay him. even more fun if you just use the first hit of the side b and repeat! your friend is not a decent player so that should be correct

Up tilt works well for me. Shield grab is good, but what if he comes with a grab instead of a dash?

Then, perhaps, wavedash backwards to grab? Or, utilt to fair/ken combo.
