I'm a noob at marth, just started playing as him a few days ago. I need some advice on what to against opponents who roll around excessively. I try to grab them but I sometimes miss and end up being punished, is there a better solution available?

Tech-Chase(Follow what they do) them, rolling can be punished real badly. A rolling opponent can be good for a Marth, it might make enough distance to tipper the opponent. Like if they try to roll behind you, give them the front smash, or if its a fast-faller, JC grab(jump-cancel) the opponent and chain-grab them.

Yea I try to f-smash them all the time, but most of the time I just hit their shield and then get hit because of the lag. And if I follow them around, the rolling just never ends. Why is it that pros never roll? There must be something you can do to easily punish excessive rolling opponents...

Turn around and shffl a nair. If you start it right before their roll is finished the second hit should land on their sheild. It stuns them long enough to get out a grab. D Smash is risky but if you know they'll roll behind you it's worth the risk. Their roll will get them tipped.

If you're going to tech chase them make sure you jump cancel your grabs so they come out fast enough to get your opponent.

over-b combos and dsmash own if they roll behind you, most likely they will keep rolling in the same place either behidn you or away from you so yea. Try using the tilts as they conme out fast and wavedashing is your friend. or play peach just for them, dsmash = rollers hell

Don't make using the down smash a habit because of the lag after the move. What you will learn with experience is in smash, you need to frame your attacks as much as possible around when your opponent creates a vulnerability. For instance, if you are marth and you fsmash and hit nothing but air, you are vulnerable. If your opponent does not know how to l-cancel (even if they do sometimes), they are vulnerable when landing on the ground, particularly after an aerial attack (that misses). After a roll, your opponent is stuck there and can't do any sort of attack for a fraction of a second. There is also a small portion of a roll where your opponent is vulnerable to your attack, similar to how your opponent who is over 100% and grabbing on the ledge becomes vulnerable for a brief period when rolling back up on stage. Timing your attacks to take advantage of these vulnerabilities is a large part of getting good. When you watch a video of pros playing, it looks simple to you but it is in fact quite complex. There are many aspects of their games that you simply do not comprehend yet.
