I'm just wondering, I basically main the "best" character of each game (asides Melee which my main was Jigglypuff).

Try telling that to Zelda. As if she didn't feel inadequated enough.

Anyways, I was never really concerned about how the eventual tier list will stand alone rather what they provide about character matchups. It's not so much about having a character that will pubstomp the entire roster. Moreso, it's about what in their playstyle makes them a viable, popular pick and exploiting all possible counters against them.

Oh, and OP, don't you think people are going to drop in and vote om whim of who there favorite character is rather than who the strongest character might be?

Better than the people who don't main a character based on the same reasoning. It's really not uncommon to see people refusing to main characters they like in fighting games because they're too strong and popular.

In the meantime, play characters you like and are interested in, and see how they go. I know plenty of Brawlers who go off the tier list and suck, and plenty who play who they feel, and are near unstoppable.

I am a competitive player, I just started Smash boards so that's why my title says "Smash Rookie". I in fact entered 3 tournaments.
Lucina isn't an option because I believe she wasn't playable in the demo
Ganon wasn't playable from the demo (I'm doing characters that don't need to be locked)
On a side note, I'm voting for Greninja due to his amazing aerials, good mobility, and his sharp damage input

This will be impossible to tell for sure until we actually have the game in our hands. A lot of the time characters are judged off of their match-ups in relation to the rest of the roster and how they fare against them, and until we have everything there's just no guarantee on who's going to be the best.

However, just to give some sort of answer I guess judging from the demo it's no doubt between Sheik and Zero Suit Samus, they have great mobility and tons of good tools at their exposal. Not sure why Rosalina is running away with most of the votes though, her attacks aren't especially fast or powerful, and she's a tall light-weight character, she has the same flaws that Mewtwo had in Melee, and I doubt the Luma is going to make up for that.

It's an expression thing. Some people play fighting games as an expression of themselves, and with too much popularity on a character, it becomes impossible to develop a unique style. So, some people inherently gravitate towards lesser used characters. You also get the extra added bonus of usually having more techniques to discover on less popular characters while more popular characters eventually have their advanced technique discovery slow to a trickle.

Besides, if both required the same skill, would you rather be the world's best Zelda or the world's 8th best Marth?

By the way, it's much too early to tell, but if you put a gun to my head and made me guess, I'd probably guess Rosalina and Luma. There's a HUGE amount of potential for spacing with them. Shulk's got amazing range, but his lag on the smashes might eventually be easily punishable. So, i wouldn't put a bet on it.
