Myself, I think there's a sort of reincarnation theory around, but not in the traditional way.

Once you've lived your life and have died, your soul would be reincarnated as someone (or something) different depending on particular conditions. Think of it as sort of a stock count; there will always be a certain amount of stocks that are constantly re-entering the world through birth and constantly leaving through death. The number will never change dramatically unless fate has decided it to be so for whatever reason.

Of course, naturally, you wouldn't remember the past sort...
