I was wondering if any new information about what Crazy Hand refers to as "scripts" (hitboxes, timers, etc) has been found since it stopped development (around 2016?).
Last I left there was still a good chunk of events that we either didn't know what they did, or had a vague idea that seemed inconsistent between subactions or characters.
(Classic example being the 0x50 event (Reverse direction?), which either turns you around or released a grabbed character depending).

Same question goes for attributes/character specific attributes; There's quite a bit that is fuzzily understood within Crazy Hand.

Also wondering if any further progress was made with animation editing (I can guess some, based off Fox's special taunt thing in 20XX but I don't know anything about how they did it).

I know it's a pretty broad ask considering it's been literal years, but if you've got a sec to throw me a link or two I'd greatly appreciate it

Crazy Hand is slowly becoming more and more obsolete as this program keeps being updated: https://github.com/Ploaj/HSDLib/releases

It doesn't do everything CH does because it doesn't load entire ISOs, but only one file at a time. It's got the advantage of being more precise and specific, but less detailed with its UI. Came out September of last year and development is still going strong. You'll find better defined scripts there, but you'll also find out that character specific attributes have yet to be labelled at the time of writing this. I think all general attributes are defined, though, even some that CH doesn't include, like Bunny Hood related attributes.

I should also mention that it does way more than editing characters. It can also edit audio (that means way less limitations), stages, inject animations, etc..

As for animations, they've been figured out for the most part when it comes to importing custom ones. Yes. I was one of the first to make one for an attack (bragging rights) and someone made a tutorial on how to do it. Here's my animation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpqWY2kc2Xc
And here's the tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8y97B4b3dA

You can see some of its development here, too: https://smashboards.com/threads/character-animation-importing-tutorial.458258/

Oh wow, that tool is pretty impressive-- Glad to see that models/animations have been de-mystified over time.

Do you think there's still a need for an updated Crazy Hand at this juncture, or does this program cover everyone's needs as of now? Truthfully, I've been working on a successor program for about three weeks and I'd hate to see the work I've done go to waste.

Crazy Hand is just not going to get an update. Ever. This program, however, is not at a point where it makes CH obsolete, given the fact that it's still missing what I mentioned earlier, which is pretty important. Move Logic is also not a thing yet, but it's slowly being figured out.
