This is my toughest challenge when playing platinum. this mainly arises because i jumped straight from playing first gen all my life and watching the occasional later gen anime, to 4th gen playing platinum. All the new pokemon have my head spinning, and while i'm getting better, trying to remember what all the types are gets really confusing.

What i was hoping this thread would be about was what strategies people use at the battle factory, because i could use some help getting to thornton. he's the last brain i need to verse before going to colour plates.

And on a side note: If you fail at any challenge in the battle frontier between versing a frontier brain the first time and versing the brain the second time, do you go to the 21st battle and start from there, or do you go back to square (battle) 1?

You start from square 1 whenever you lose.

The problem with the Battle Factory is that you win by knowing Pokemon, knowing attacks and knowing the Battle Factory. Oh, and luck. Lots and lots of luck.

There's not a whole lot you can do other than pick fast, strong Pokemon with STAB attacks, boosting attacks and try to have type coverage and a perfect accuracy move (Aerial Ace etc) handy. Good attacking types are Ground, Rock, Water, Ice, Fire and Electric, but STAB is generally more important. Some Pokemon are really, really good and sweep by themselves, but the problem is you don't have them for too long. Examples include Starmie, Infernape, Weavile, Garchomp (not the special attacking one), Lati@s.

Note: swapping every single round gets you slightly better Pokemon in terms of raw stats, but it will not affect the actual species or movesets you get. Try and swap as often as possible (having two good mons and one throwaway mon maybe), but don't sacrifice good Pokemon.

STAB attacks? That has me confused...

Hmm, yeah i see what you mean. I generally look for types that i'm super-effective against, but i definitely value speed. One attack can make a huge difference.

STAB means same type attack bonus - ie charizard using fire blast - the attack is 50% stronger than a non-fire pokemon with the same stats using it

speed is the most important stat by far

Moving this to the general Poké Center since this is about singleplayer and not competitive battling.
