"Black/Light" -I think Toad deserves the 5th and hopefully last mario spot more than anyone)

No lol, Toad stays as peaches tool. nuff said.
Jesus Christ, are people still using that ridiculous argument?...

Toad being Peach's B move does not, in any way, mean that he cannot be playable.

Well put Zevox. I couldn't say it better myself. The argument against characters that I hate the most is that popularity or number of uses argument (states that the character isn't known well, hasn't been used in as many games, etc.) .

What people constantly forget is that this is an entirely separate game in itself, and because of that, you need to consider the functions of SUPER SMASH BROTHERS BRAWL as well. Consider what characters would be unique and interesting, while offering a likeable means of fighting and control.

Forget popularity for a second. Okay, sure, maybe Smash Brothers is a bit of a popularity contest. But the fact still remains that this is a fighting game, and that all things considered, we need characters that will add depth and enjoyability to the play of the game.

At the same time, you need to be realistic: a minor, generic enemy from a franchise should not receive precedence over a major, main character from another franchise just because the former may have a more "interesting" moveset. Not sure if you were arguing that significance shouldn't be taken as highly as it is, but I'm just throwing that out there.

You're right--of course there are SOME significance factors that'll be taking place, and I'll die before I see Goomba becoming a playable character over Megaman...just that significance within a videogame, or rather lack thereof, shouldn't be a sole reason for a character's non-inclusion to this game- especially if the characters seems to have a decently sized fanbase (Geno is the only example coming to mind, but I'm sure there are more)

Why is this thread even here? I don't see why people don't want anyone in Brawl, but the thing that got to me was Geno. All of the arguements based around him don't have any substance and aren't truly valid.

-He has only appeared in 1 game
This reason is bull. Just because he only appears in one game, doesn't mean he is a Nintendo Legend. I personally find Super Mario RPG my favorite game of all time, and Geno and Mallow are partly reasons why I find that so. His one appearence is legendary, marking a time where Mario owned the world by creating new characters to help out. By the way, Ice Climbers and Mr. Game and Watch say 'Hi'.
-He was not the main character in his game
This reason is pure ignorance too. Why do only the main characters get the cut? That would eliminate many people from Melee's roster, and I do not care how you slice it, there are 1-2 main characters in a game, so having only main characters would suck. The likes of Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Pichu, Mewtwo, Sheik, Captain Falcon, and especially Falco.
-He is Third (Second 1/2) Party, why would Nintendo want to spend money on their own rep?
Trust me, Geno has enough fanpower to power a rocket ship on a trip to Neptune. This alone could get him in, and his amazing popularity is incredible. Also, he made an appearence in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and the rights to this character were stated in the ending credits, so I am sure if they put Geno in as a mini-game information storyteller for a brief 10-15 second cameo and spent money on that, I am sure they would do it for Brawl.
-He woudln't fit
Snake laughs at you. He is in an 'M' rated series, so if he can fit, anyone can. Also, besides Captain Olimar, Geno has the best chance for the most unique moveset.

Any other arguements out there? I am sure I can combat them.

The only characters they need left are Mewtwo, Luigi, Ganondorf, Krystal, Takamaru, Falco, Capt. Falcon, Capt. Olimar, Issac, Lip, Sukapon, G&W and Ray MkIII and Micaiah.

Everyone else can die for all I care.
