so far my friend Rayku (from smashboards) and i are going to try and tackle the world record time of 2:40:05 set by Daniel 'Gibbatizer' Gibb on April 30th, '09 for Banjo Kazooie (N64). his run can be viewed here:

http://speeddemosarchive.com/BanjoKazooie.html

i was wondering if anyone else is interested in helping out with this, whether it be sharing shortcuts that Daniel Gibb's run doesn't already cover or partaking in the run itself. Rayku and I have already deduced strategies that should shave off a good 5 minutes from the current world record, however that's assuming we master his route as well as add our shortcuts to it, which isn't easy for a single-segment run.

flaws in the world record run:
*on Treasure Trove Cove he doesn't fly into the chest in the alcove; not only would flying disable the Obtain Jiggy animation but it would enable you to continue to fly up to the top of TTC without having to return to the flight pad.
*on Gobi's valley he runs into the sand to obtain the jiggies, rather than flying and grabbing them while still in the air. yes this is VERY hard to do but it would allow you to complete that part of the level much quicker as you could continue the flight you're in to go and get other jiggies after getting the notes, rather than running out of the sand and back to the flight pad
*On Rusty Bucket Bay he wastes literally 1.5-2 minutes trying to glitch through the window to get to the propellers quicker. this can easily be done within 10-20 seconds if mastered
*also on RBB he takes the easy way out of the shark's cage. yes the shark's cage is notorious for ending speedrun attempts as escaping through the smaller hole is extremely difficult, however it's a risk i'm willing to take
*on Click Clock Wood, he falls, resulting in ~2 minutes being necessary to scale back up the mountain. that suuuuuucks
*on Grunty's Furnace Fun he answers a ton of questions wrong; it'd be much smarter to have a file with all the answers in front of you on a computer and you could CTRL + F the answers

other than that it was an amazing run, but i think i can beat it. the more help the better, though

thanks

i've been testing shortcuts i've come up with on an emulator and i've been able to nearly tie the world record for the first level so far. the first level (mumbo's mountain) is one of the hardest because you have to abuse the physics of these slanted platforms to scale a mountain without wasting time to get this transformation that lets you do it without abusing the games physics. its soo hard but i got this

frames hit me up on aim son

thanks man^

question for people who know about N64 controllers:
am i able to cut off the left handle of my controller? its very annoying and interferes with me reaching the L button, which is necessary to skip text and is otherwise hard to get to. i'm just wondering if 1. it doesn't contain any wiring in it that might break my controller and 2. would it invalidate my speedrun?

I'm not sure on the rules but I'm doubting the run would be accepted with a "modded" controller. I'd say just reach over with your right hand for L while continuing to move with the stick but I doubt that's a solution from the sound of things.

Other than that I saw that run a few weeks back. If you're up to the challenge of beating it then power to you haha. Go for it, right Falcon?

You can shave like a solid minute off Marshmallow's Mumbo Mountain time.

Don't do what happened to us where you miss 1 note in Click Clock Woods and it stalls you for 45 minutes.

lol, I just ran through banjo-tooie last week and made david run through DK64 during christmas break. I think he took 16 hours. It was his first time doing 100%. Also, the jitterbug race with lanky took him like 3 hours to do. The arcade donkey kong took a while as well......then I had to do it for him.

Jesus, it's such a long game.

LOL I loved that race. Me and Marco did DK64 in I think 12 hours? Full clear, so many random moments of failure. Got stalled in Gloomy Galleon for like an hour cause we were missing 1 Balloon >_>

Europhoria/unknown hit me up on AIM @ zerohax to discuss this lol. marshmallow's time is no longer the WR; "Gibbatizer" shaved 15 minutes off it for a total of 2:40:05. what was his time on MM? i'm assuming he used the insect and it's 7+ minutes (which is really bad lol)
