Ran into a really cool post from a girl named Claire. I thought you guys deserved to here her Smash Bros tier list.
What is your Smash bros game ranking? I'm curious.
"1. Project M. Go figure that a game made by the community dares to say "look how much better we are at this than you, Sakurai". And it succeeds. Truly a game with great balance (when Mario and Bowser are seen in grand finals, you know they did something right), characters being added every so often, and a nice variety of stages (I'm still impressed with Dracula's Castle), it's truly what Brawl should have been.
2. Melee. It set the bar extremely high in terms of competitive play, and also introduced so much to the series, that Brawl seems more like "Melee 1.5" (minus the gameplay) with what it tried to bring in. While Melee's balance often comes into question (which is why I rate P:M higher), it's still a fantastic entry in the series overall.
3. Smash 64. 0-Death combos and ridiculousness everywhere. It's what kickstarted the series, and thus deserves this spot. I especially love the sound effects and how violent they seem.
4. Brawl Minus. Take all of Brawl's characters, take Brawl's gameplay/engine, and tweak it to make every character as overpowered as possible while adding hitstun that's greater than even Smash 64's. Sounds like a good day to me.
4. Brawl Plus. Pretty much what Brawl could have been, had the development team for Brawl cared about proper character balance and gameplay.
5. Brawl. The "black sheep" of the series, and for a variety of reasons. While I do like the game for what it is, it's clearly a step down compared to Melee's polish in terms of gameplay. It's much slower, much floatier, and the random tripping does no favors. Character imbalance is also an issue (Ganondorf is a prime example, where he has not even a 50:50 matchup). Brawl is still viable as a competitive game, because it has its good points, but compared to other games in the series (including fan-made ones), it just isn't as polished as it could have and should have been."
