Audio editor?

Hiya.

I was listening to some OCRemix the other day when I realized that I could waste away the hours by remixing some music. Or making custom ringtones for the phone. Or insert audio thing here.

My question is: what program is the best for editting/creating custom audio files?

If what I'm interested in is confusing or you simply need more information concerning what I desire to do, I would love it if you asked.

Audacity is pretty good, and its open-source as well

I thought you needed a polyphonic converter, but if you want mp3, Audacity as snoblo said.

yeah audacity is probably the way to go.

if you need another option though, goldwave is nice.

Online ringtone makers are somewhat easier to use.

Hmm...I like Ardour for Linux. It's got about 4 times as many features as Audacity, and it's meant specifically for music.
