AT's getting old

I have seen a lot of threads on Smashboards, and I have seen A LOT of lucas AT's (Advanced Techniques). Personally, I am getting very tired of them. Not even pros use them that often. If anyone agrees with me and is good with Lucas, I would be VERY interested to hear about the techniques you use in just plain, old style fighting. And yes, this is your grandfather. Sure, I use a couple of AT's, but I don't overuse the poo out of them. It gets to be too much mush in the end and you end up with one million AT's but no actual fighting skill. In melee, it was great because it was quick. I love brawl and sure it's way better than melee, but the slowness leaves too much time for nubby players to try to do weird stuff. Help me out here! (I know not everyone who uses AT's are noobs) Thanks.

Why do people hate on the newbies? u__u we were all newbies at one time.

Anyways, yeah, I agree with you. Even though I didn't even know what the crap "wavedashing" was in Melee until the very end (a few months before brawl). And I still didn't even figure out how to do it. I still don't use advanced techniques. I don't plan on using them that much either, unless they're quick and easy to do. And USEFUL. Really, people think too much about the game. So yeah, I agree with you.

hey bigmack, how many pros do you know that use lucas?

Lucas isn't good enough to justify not tapping any of his resources, and he happens to have a lot of momentum tricks.

Oh, and I use bsticking for pk fires a lot. I hope you're not calling me out.

edit: all of this is directed at bigmac, not powda, who I think thought there may have been some confusion or something.

P.S. I guess i'm not even qualified to answer your thread...I can't even imagine playing lucas without AT...so, for the last hour I tried to go through just 1 match without doing any AT at all and I couldn't do it...the second I started getting beat on, I started Wave bouncing Zap jumping .etc. out of habit, and the games turned around every time. I just don't have enough pracice not using AT to be competitive with the ppl on my friends list. Actually, I really just don't know any good mind games without AT. Wavebouncing is the ultimate mind game when mixed in with SH PKFers. And Zap jumping back for a recovery throws the enemy off every time, i mean every single time. It's impossible for them to guess what lucas is gonna do to come back. To all his own, but we just live in different worlds ;)

First of all there are no Brawl "pros" yet. Having videos posted on youtube does not make you pro. That being said, Lucas's game is not even close to fully developed. I have to say that some discoveries like zap jump and magnet pull are NOT things you're going to be using over and over as a good Lucas player. They are situational at best. Even the most useful Advanced Techniques are not going to necesarily make you the best player. Take for example Aniki from Melee. He played one of the best Links I've ever seen and never wavedashed, moonwalked, or even bomb jumped if I remember right. What makes a player good is understanding the game. Being very general this means good spacing and good mindgames (using mindgames as the general term of predicting your opponent and being able to force them to do certain things.) Therefore what is most valuable is understanding every aspect of your character rather than knowing how to zap jump all over the place. Know your moveset completely and totally. Knockback, length, kill percentage etc. Know every one of your opponents movesets and how they can use it against you. These are the most important aspects of the game and what seperate the noobs from the pros. Anyone can learn to wavedash given enough time. It takes genuine skill to play the game intelligently.

lol, you didn't answer his call.

As far as non-advanced stuff, I like to sh fair and nair, and his jabs and ftilts are pretty darn good.

Most of this game is knowing what's coming and how to punish it. I can't read your opponents mind from here, so it's kinda tough to tell you to jab at :06, then follow it up with a grab DJ Nair, DI away, etc.

What I mean is that this stuff tends to be situational.

At Tyr: I interpreted "pro" not as a brawl pro, but as a melee pro playing brawl.

Well I've fially gotten the hang of ZapJumping, and that's a real lifesaver. Why wouldn't you want to have the second best vertical recovery in the game by using a very simple trick?
In Melee, all those ATs took quite some time to learn and I never really bothered, but Lucas' tricks are easy, just learn them and then you cand ecide to use them or no.
