what
Ive seen this topic on a few forums, so im bringin it around to good ol smashboards.

OK, the question is - What ARE aruseus and mew? (or any other ubers... its just that aruseus and mew are the most god-like)

Ive seen a lot of ppl saying aruseus is like god and mew is similar to adam/eve. Now, that would be just swell if it werent for the fact that mew is just about as strong, and maybe even MORE versatile than aruseus, with the all tms property and the transform glitch. It just doesnt fit. Lots also say that aruseus symbolizes god and mew symbolizes jesus... ehh, im not too sure about that.

IMO, its quite similar to the triforce (farore, din, nayru) in LoZ. Aruseus is said to have created time and space in the pokemon universe, not really the pokes themselves, IIRC. And with mew looking all fetus like, (which i find totally awesome) he is kinda like the pokedex says, the father of all pokemon. No clue where celbi comes in, seeing as how there is ANOTHER time uber in D/P. So idk.

Lol, mewtwo. I find it funny how a man made poke can put the freakin poke-god on a run for his money. heh.

But yeah, leave all religious flames at the door. I am christian, and i know that this is all in fun. Dont be zealous extremists, please.

Blaspheme! Burn the infidel!

What is this going on? Pokemon mythology or symbolism?

Pokemon mythology would be like saying Aruseus was the beginning and he created Mew which created life. Blah blah.

Symbolism would be comparing pokemon to a certain religion. Like when someone said Aruseus and Mew were the pokemon forms of God and Jesus.

>.< I'm not going into this because not only do I not have D/P, but because thinking about it makes me confused. Good luck on the thread and I hope people can take the drastic change from the "list your ugliest pokemon" threads.

Haha. Mew just happens to be some rare Pokemon. According to D/P, Aruseus created time and space and according to the anime, Ho-oh created the legendary dogs. As for the rest, no idea. Lol. Ho-oh is supposed to be more god-like than Mew, or at least according to the show... As for Mew being on the same terms as Aruseus... Aruseus has 720 stat total. That is unprecedented in Pokemon. The closest anything has gotten to that is Mewtwo/Lugia/Ho-oh/Rayquaza. Yea, Mew learns all the TMs. But Aruseus learns all the TMs that matter. Mew's typing is set, while Aruseus's is far from set. The only thing that could possibly make Aruseus better is Tail Glow or Scheme, which Mew actually gets. But since Aruseus gets Calm Mind, it's only a minor setback. Mew can physical sweep too? So can Aruseus, except even more effectively. Both of them get Swords Dance, but Aruseus outspeeds and overpowers Mew, and it gets STAB on any of its moves. I would say the only things Mew has over Aruseus is Synchronize, getting an item(assuming Aruseus opts to hold a plate, which it doesn't have to. A STABbed Return with that base attack + Swords Dance hurts), Scheme, Baton Pass, Transform, and more (often novelty) options.

Oh, and I guess Aruseus's lack of hands is discouraging =( It can't Focus Punch. Lol.

If I recall correctly, Aruseus is the god of all pokemon. This is hinted by the fact that he can be any type, and that he has the highest base stat total of all (/Captain Obvious). Again, it is also hinted that it could be a god in the fact that its signature move is called "Judg(e)ment Pebble", the fact that it's obtained in an event in which the player receives an item called "Heaven's Pipe", and it was supposedly created before physical space was.

One thing I find interesting, is that its name could have been originated from the names "Allah" and "Zeus", two supreme deities in major world religions. Add those two together and you get "Allazeus". Since a Japenese L is equal to an American R, it can become "Arazeus", which in turn is similar to "Aruseus". [Taken from a topic from smogon.com]

With that said, I think it's safe to assume Aruseus is supposed to be a god pokemon. Now, as for the relationship between Mew and Aruseus, I think it's pretty much a coincidence. Mew was created long before Aruseus was even thought of. Mew being a compilation of all pokemon DNA was probably just an explanation to how it learns almost all moves, and has perfectly balanced, yet powerful, base stats.

As for Mewtwo being "better" than Aruseus, remember that Aruseus can change type depending on its plate, and can become Dark-type Aruseus and destroy him. It all depends on how you customize your Aruseus, not just its type, but also if you make it defensive, offensive, etc.

EDIT: I think Aruseus DOES have a relationship with most other ubers, besides Mew. In most religions, there's a "god of all gods", and also a god for many other things. So, Aruseus is the god of all gods, and then there's Groudon(God of Land), Kyogre(God of Sea), Rayquaza(god of the skies), Zapdos(god of electricity), Articuno(god of ice), Moltres(god of fire), and Parukia and Diaruga(Gods of space and time). Don't ask me where Sheimi, Jirachi, Celebi, Ho-oh, Lugia, Latios, or Latias come into all of this.

Also, Deoxys is excused because he's a virus, Mewtwo is excused from all of this because he's a clone, and Entei/Raikou/Suicune are excused because they were created by Ho-oh(who might be the god of Life).

ok, for both of you. Mew and Mewtwo can both *technically* beat aruseus, becaus if aruseus was, say, a fighting type, mew and m2 would win. Idk WHY hed be a fighting type, but still. That means aruseus isnt "teh pwnz0rz" as everyone though him out to be.

Articuno, zapdos, and moltres arent gods. The only poke who is considered a real god is aruseus. And groudon and kyogre, maybe.

I dont think mew is just a legendary. He's a little bit more. Not a god, but something like... a source, or a beginning. I know i said i disagreed with the adam and eve thing, but its seeming more and more to be what mew is.

As to why I think Moltres/Articuno/Zapdos could be gods:

Taken from Zapdos' Wikipedia Page:

"Zapdos, one of a trio of magically powerful birds of which the other two are Articuno and Moltres, is the avian embodiment of spontaneous electricity.... Zapdos, a creature that can freely manipulate electricity, is thought to live in thunderclouds, where it apparently only gains power when struck by lightning. "

I think it's safe to assume that Zapdos is the supreme being of electricity, and that Moltres and Articuno are the supreme beings of fire and ice. This is, of course, from a Politheistic point of view.

[As for Mewtwo vs. Aruseus, true Mewtwo could defeat him in his fighting form(I'm not sure about the other forms as I don't have a damage calculator with me), but I'm sure if Aruseus really wanted to he would just take off his fighting plate and put on his dark plate in the middle of a battle!! That is, unless it's a trainer battle which would make this an illegal move.]

Also, something just hit me. Aruseus is the god of all pokemon, meaning that he could be stronger than all naturally created pokemon, but since Mewtwo was created by humans, Mewtwo could theoretically destroy the creator of all pokemon. So, would that mean Mewtwo's only rival is the god of all humans? Arg, I'm thinking too much into this. I'm done.

WHOA. Subparsmashbrother, you just made mewtwo sound sooo much kewler than he already was. I mean, wow. The only thing that can stand in his way is GOD. Mewtwo pwns.

But ya, i dont think the birds are gods. They are just like their title says: legendary.
I cant think of the word... Something less than a god, but more that a normal pokemon. Meh.

I think Mew is the Pokèsymbol for god.

According to the Pokèdex (which has priority over whatever the anime says), Mew (God) gave birth to Mewtwo (mankind). However, because Mew made Mewtwo too powerful, Mewtwo overcame Mew.

I'm atheist.

lol, atheism.

But no, mewtwo does not symbolize mankind. Maybe mankind's corruption, like TRYING to play god, but not mankind itself.

Actually, I saw the fact of him being imprisoned in Cerulean Cave a metaphor of man being banished from the Garden of Eden.

Of course, that's just me. Mankind's curreption would also make sense.

Wait, I meant I'm agnostic.

Mew is not a God, Mew is the "Ancestor" of all other pokemon, which most likely would not include the Legendary, or "God" pokemon. The analogy of comparing Mew to Adam is rather good, except for the obvious "Doing what the big god said not to do, getting kicked out, yadda yadda yadda"
