Aids, and cancer are not here to control our numbers. They are here for different reasons.
AIDS is a virus that does kill humans, but it was not 'designed' to do so. It evolved to live quite happily in chimps and not kill the chimps either. Somehow, it was introduced to the human species and spread from there.
It is like wild boars in Hawaii. Wild boars do well where wild boars are supposed to be. But somehow they were introduced to Hawaii and are tearing the place apart. That doesn't mean wild boars were meant to destroy Hawaii.
Cancer is a simple mutation of a cell that spreads. It can be caused by any number of things including (usually) harmless bacteria.
Trying to cure, or at least treat these things does not go against nature. It is our natural survival, and self preservation instinct that drives us to find a way to get better.
There are parrots that eat a certain clay because it neutralizes a toxin in certain fruit they eat. Are the parrots going against nature?
Many animals in Africa coat themselves in mud to avoid getting bitten by insects. Many of those insects carry malaria.
It is in every animals best interest to avoid getting sick, and try to get healthy if they do. It is not going against nature at all.
