Approaches vs a good TL

TL players love to suck you into their game... I want to be able to get in their face without playing the arrow/boomerang combo game.

In the past, ive relied heavily on MT/DR as an approach vs TL to avoid arrow/boomerang spam as I come in. Im aware of the basic approaches for a projectile spammer (walking +shielding/spotdodging or shorthop +arial dodging, gliding, just flying, etc), but Im wondering what you guys have found to work best. Im trying to cut back on my MT use, as I feel like I get a little tornado-happy when fighting opponents with lower-priority projectiles... and I'd like to fix that by making my game a little more technical. I figure I can always resort to the tornado when nothing else works, but I might as well improve the other areas of my game and then add that in later. Also, some TLs are really good with their bombs, making this a less than stellar approach, as the bombs will stop the MT/DR.

I find that (particularly on wifi matches) its fairly difficult to time the arrows in order to dodge them while walking in consistently... So I end up just blocking them and then continuing to walk in.... Often this leaves me open for a grab) or other attack when I let my shield get too small or let go of shield). Ive also played around with sliding shield, which seems to work fairly well, but sometimes I cant get my shield up quickly if Im in the startup of a dash animation, which just gives TL free damage on me as I dash in.

So... which approach do you guys find works best?

Watch my videos. I got plenty of matches vs Santi's TL. (Who's considered one of the higher tl players on the boards currently.)

I approach from the sky. You're not about to get far with the MT if Toon Link chucks a bomb at you.

I use up a couple of jumps, then fast fall a fair or dair as far away from Toon Link as MK's range will allow.

get and stay very close. mk has way better priority than toon link, and his attacks are way faster with less lag. dont let him dominate the match with his projectiles. just charge at him while avoiding the projectiles and make it a short-range battle.
boomerang has very slow start up animation and so you should be ready to dodge before it comes out. the lag will give you time to advance.

Yup, that's pretty much what you want to do. I'd like to add additional emphasis to the "as far away from Toon Link as MK's range will allow" part. You want to stay close enough to stop his projectiles, but not so close that he can kill you with some of his b air combos or u smashes; both are not fun to receive. :(

Ive watched a few Dojo, and your MK is very good... however Santi doesnt seem as campy/projectile happy as some of the TLs I have played recently... not to say that campy is good or bad, just... different. So... it was kinda tough for me to extrapolate a strategy based on watching the vids.

normally he uses heaps of projectiles. dojo was just pressuring and not giving him any time to do that.
