Anyone/Team Battle stage selection question

By what orientation does Brawl Online modes chose their stages?
Does it chose by:

• A spinner (random selection)
• Items

Because to me it seemed that if I chose some certain type of items, then my chances were lower for that being my stage. Other times if I had no items, and my other opponents did have items, my opponents with items on had their stages picked,

Is this a coincidence or fact?

It's just a coincidence, dosen't happen to me much.

I have items off, but FD with items seems inevitable. Although I guess my stage comes up 25% of the time.

Well don't know too much since I'm still new but, I've never got into a fight with my item options yet(0 items except for smash balls set at the lowest). Maybe it's just my luck or something but yeah...

Concerning the stage, it only came up like once or twice.
