Anyone make use of his B attack?

Please note, I'm not a very advanced player... I just learned how to successfully wavedash, and I'm loving it.

Does anybody ever find use for Marth's normal B attack? It's really slow, and too easy to dodge. Heck, fast enough characters could punch him before the blade struck. The ony two uses I've found of this is edge-guarding, and slashing someone out of an aerial attack.

You can finish combos with it if your positionning is awkward, particularly with those fair chains that just seem to make your opponent go higher and higher. It can be impossible to link those into an fsmash on floaty characters, and of course the dair is situational all the time, so it's rarely an option. You can finish with an uncharged neutral B instead, since it dosn't require a sweetspot and always has an outward trajectory, as demonstrated at 3:08 in this video.

You can use it after shield pressure too. If you land a few fairs on your opponent's shield and he isn't moving, come down with an uncharged neutral B and it can easily break his shield. This is very situational though, and any player with experience won't let this happen. Cactuar tries it on Reik at 2:08 in this video, and although Reik avoids the attack, you can clearly see the idea behind it.

When it comes to slashing someone out of an aerial, use your fair. It's faster and more comboable.

It's a great substitute for Fsmash while you're in the air :p Also, it works well against a Jiggs that has missed a rest. If she shields it, she dies. If she doesn't, she takes a lot of damage and goes flying. It always works well after an aerial.

Like Pye said, there are actually a few rare situations where using it to finish a big fair combo is the best option. I recall a few examples of this in the marth combo video "Wound of the Wind" if you want to check it out.

EDIT: actually, after rewatching wound of the wind, it seems it doesn't have many instances of that after all. My bad, sorry.

Note that while this does work against most players, a smart Jiggs player will hold down the shield button and the c-stick down while she's asleep to buffer a stepdodge. When she comes out of the rest, she will stepdodge immediately, and her shield will never come out. You can do the same with a roll.

That's true, Pye.

I think anyone who wants to learn how to use Marth's B should just watch Azen's vids. That's how I started to use it. Then it became more variable the more I got used to it.

I normally use it to punish the recoveries of Pikachu, Fox, Falco and sometimes Falcon Oh and sometimes its cool to jump of the stage and hit someone with it during their second jump, just to be random. =)

it can occasionally substitute for a back air in some cases seeing as you can just flick the joystick one way and the use B when it goes back into neutral position to use it. When edguarding, back air definately works better but if you are on the stage and want to get behind your opponent by jumping over them, you can just pull this move out and hit them with it and possibly cause a combo to start up

Untrue. Buffering will make you spotdodge/roll as soon as possible, but that means there will still be one frame where the shield will appear. And a couple frames of vulnerability time between the shield and the spotdodge/roll.

That reminds me. If your opponent likes to light shield on a platform while you're invincible from spawning, hit him with a slightly charged B. He won't do it ever again! Then the next life you can expect him to do something else about your invincibility. If he camps on the edge, he's right where you want him. If he camps on platforms without the light shield, that's just as good. Attack from below.
