i'm having a lot of trouble switching. i have a melee tourney tomorrow and i'm seriously not used to the controls. it's like i never held a controller in my life, or a circle pad that moves a lot smoother.

I played melee for the first time today since Smash 4 came out. The controller felt so big suddenly. Usually I'll be a bit brain dead when it comes to coming back to melee after a while but I tend to catch back on shortly after.

  1. I get what you mean I just went back to melee to test it out and it feels weird. The real question is if you knew you a tourney why were you playing on the 3ds?

I find it really strange how easy the 3DS is to use (for me). It feels wrong. I love the NGC controller better in every way but I'm way more consistent with the 3DS. I've never been able to do tilts as easily before and I haven't even had any problems with leaving tap jump on.

When I played Melee last night, I kept hitting L to grab and discard - which is what Smash 3DS has conditioned me to do - so I did a lot of accidental air-dodging and selfdestructing, and just all kinds of wonky timing. I bet my lass is glad this li'l handicap has finally put us back on a similar skill level.

I haven't had melee in a long time but I've had this problem with the Gamecube controller in general. I've gotten so conditioned to the 3ds controls that I actually switched my L button to grab even though I usually use Y. Also, My Y button is located where the 3ds' jump button is for me which causes even more problems.

Not as much of a problem for me, but then again I set up my 3DS controls to mimic a Gamecube controller....

I have a fear that me hitting the L button for grabbing is gonna bite me in the Wii U version. Oh well, haha. I'm going to be using digital triggers anyway and I don't use L as shield.

That's how I feel pretty much anytime I go back to an older installment in a series.
Usually though my muscle memory kicks in pretty quick again.

I hope this isn't a problem for me once I get the Wii U version.

I swapped the grab buttons to prevent this confusion and also turned tap jump off. Using the GC controller again isn't too big of a problem but it does require some minor adjustments.

Yes, I am having trouble. Mostly because my Gamecube isn't plugged in and I'm too lazy to set it up when I have the 3DS sitting in the middle of the room ready to go.

Going from Smash4 to a round of PM, speed/mechanic wise, was fine. Then I realized I was trying to hit Y to grab, and started smacking myself.
