Anyone AGAINST Snake's inclusion in Melee?

I've been reading and it seems like no one is against Snake's inclusion in Melee other than myself. Personally I see it as a cheap gimmic to make more (PS1) fans buy the game, just like that Halo character added to the fighting game DoA4. Besides being a second party, Snake just doesn't fit into the candy-coated maps and fantastic characters with his rocket launcher, reputation for having a tough persona and (admitably) toned-down guns. It's like he was given a token invite to a party because of his reputation, only to find out that he didn't belong and no one was talking to him. And I still don't understand why Snake was choosen out of all the 2nd party characters, including of course Sega's Sonic who has the right cartoony look, has a long interaction with Nintendo, and would fit better in the game. My guess is there was an undisclosed agreement with Konami, or even "money"(or rights to the system, etc) involved during bargaining--behind the scenes of course.

This is because sonic fails, and Snake just oozes win.

That, and the fact that sonic games have been on the decline since about the dream cast, whereas Metal Gear Solid games have been the exact opposite.

Firstly, Snake is 3rd party. 2nd party would mean he is owned by a company that works for Nintendo. 3rd party developers don't work for any specific company in particular, which is why they make games for each console.

Secondly, I don't see how Snake doesn't fit into Smash, which already uses realistic like characters such as Samus and Link. The game itself is just a collection of characters from a variety of styles of games, being cartoony isn't a requirement to get into a smash game at all. If anything, realistic characters are needed to help bring more variety in the game, instead of just using 'cartoony' characters.

Thirdly, if you knew anything about Snakes inclusion, you'd know that he's in because Hideo Kojima, Snakes creator, begged Sakuri to put him in the game (actually, this took place at around melee's development, but it was too late to include Snake, so this time Sakurai himself brought up the idea of using Snake for Brawl IIRC). His inclusion isn't meant to be a gimmick at all. The reason he beat out Sonic is because his creators took the initiative in getting him in, while Sega seem to have been sitting on their hands regarding the matter.

As for Sonic, it's because of Snake that Sonic even has a chance of being in brawl, as previously 3rd party characters weren't going to be included, but now Snake has been added, the door has been opened for them. If Snake hadn't been unveiled, I doubt people would be saying Sonics chances are as high as people are saying they are now.

Twilight Princess isn't "candy-coated" by a long shot, and Link and Zelda are still in. None of the Metroid games are cartoony, either. Sure, I think it's random that Snake's in, but his moveset looks fun. His Up-B made me laugh when I saw it.

Actually, it is a well known fact that Snake's creator, Hideo Kojima, WANTED Snake in the game. He is good FRIENDS with Sakurai. He wanted him in Melee, but it was too far in development to be included. While I don't doubt there is some money involved, I don't think it was the main reason at all.

Naaah...

I'll assume you mean Brawl and answer thusly...

But really, it's nice to see some third party characters, and Snake's unique in that, aside from being the first 'stealth' game character, his character's also a combination of humor (often poking fun at the game itself, or the concepts within) but also a profoundly sad character.

He seriously outranks the likes of the Eternal Darkness crew in terms of personal tragedy, although I think he has competition from Lucas of Mother 3 fame...

If you ever played any of the MGS games, which I doubt you have you would know humor is one of the ingredients added to the series that makes it unique. Yes its realistic, but at the end of the day Kojima knows thats its just a video game. You would be smart to remember the same. (talking to the TC)

In my opinion, Solid Snake fits right in with the other characters of Brawl. He is tough, fights a lot and would be expected to be fighting many other very serious characters. To me, it looks like Brawl is taking a big leap from Melee and SSB64's cartoony and light-hearted world; I believe Kirby and Pikachu look more out-of-place than Snake when there are stages like Skyworld, Castle Siege and Battleship Halberd.

On another point, I don't think that the atmosphere of certain stages should pick who is included in the game. The Legend of Zelda has gotten a lot more serious and dark with his game Twilight Princess, along with classical, dark-themed games like Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. I think Snake fits in these 'candy-coated maps' just as much as TP Link.

All of Nintendo's mascots are uniquely different from one another. And just because Snake doesn't have big eyes doesn't mean he doesn't belong there.

Anyway you're a couple of years behind the times. Posts like these were rampant when Snake was first announced, but since then we've learned various reasons for his inclusion and have dealt with it.

Wow this thread fails. OP is uninformed and pretty much a moron. Go back to Nsider forums. Oh wait... HA.

In a way.

Especially after the MGS4 music update. Kojima seems to be more concerned with advertising for a new game THAT'S NOT GOING TO APPEAR ON A NINTENDO CONSOLE, rather than focusing more on the older games that were Nintendo-only.

Of course, my opinion would change if they had a Wii version of MGS4.

Snake fits perfectly in Brawl. He's unique and awesome. I would personally like to see Johanna Dark from Perfect Dark but Snake fits the bill as well.

I just hope I don't see another Anti-Snake thread. They suck and no one cares about them.

A spartan from Halo is in DOA? So what? Many games have cameos anyway.

Giving you the benefit of the doubt on the Melee/Brawl thing:

Not really, no. I've always been all for letting major 3rd-party characters in, so that doesn't bother me in the least - it actually pleases me. He fits in perfectly if you ask me - theres nothing cohesive about a game that mixes serious-toned sagas like Metroid and Fire Emblem with sillier, more out-there games like Mario and Pokèmon, so anything can fit.

As for why hes in, thats simple - as others have said, Sakurai and Snake's creator are good friends. He asked, Sakurai agreed - he actually asked back when Melee was being made, but was too late, else we'd have had Snake for that too.

There's possibly going to be two more Third Party characters to join Snake, so it's unlikely that he'll be the only one (if worst comes to worst, they could include another Konami or Metal Gear character if they can't get permission from the other companies).

What was that? A cheap gimmick to make Xbox fans buy an Xbox game?

there is nothing we can do about it but i also dislike the inclusion of snake, but definitely not because of the reasons you have provided

i always liked how all of the characters were nintendo exclusive, and i think that it should've remained that way, but oh well he's confirmed so it doesn't matter

Im pretty sure that yes, ure the only one who is against snake, there must be some others out there, but u get the point.

The thing is that u just dont like him, cause ur argument is poor, i mean "he doesnt fit"????? u serious??? a plumber fits, a lot of swordsmen fit, a bounty hunter fits, a freakin rat-like think fits, a couple of princesses fit, and so on, but a mercenary with lots of weaponry doesnt fit??? that just dont make sense

Well, to be a super nerd who knows his brawl info, I have a quote that should seriously help this argument. Taken from IGN and posted after the first trailer was shown at e3,

"Sakurai said the decision to include Solid Snake when Hideo Kojima himself practically "begged" to include the Metal Gear character in the last Smash Bros. game."

So when Sakurai included snake in the game he was really being polite and graciously accepting Hideo Kojima's request. Snake is in the game because of RESPECT, not corporate mumbo jumbo. get it straight.

How about the fact that this opens up new doors for OTHER characters? That this is the first time in a long time when a typically Sony exclusive character is showing up on an exclusive Nintendo game? How about this symbolizing the begining of good collaboration between companies that otherwise stay away from each other? How about the fact that alot of Nintendo owners like MGS, and can't afford a PS3?

Now aside from a business and/or industry view-point, there's also the fact that he's in many ways no different than characters like Zamus, Samus, Ike, or even Link. His aresenal is not only what is quite possibly the most bad-*** weapons, but also accurate too. In MGS games, Snake's got WAY more weapons than just weapons that fire bullets. In addition, 'real' guns would only detract from the style of Smash. When have you seen a character bust out a gat in previous Smash games?

How do you know Sonic isn't in, BTW?

You know, there is possibly a deal that went down between Nintendo and Konami, but guess what? The gamers benefit. Now, those who like Sony have their little piece in a great game. And don't forget this means that other characters could make it in as well becasue of this! Even if Sonic doesn't make it in, you don't know the details of the business. Maybe there's a good reason why he wouldn't be in. Regardless, we can now expect to see more 3rd party in Brawl, or even any other game for that matter.

I believe this subject is exhausted.

I suppose if Snake is a cheap gimmicky inclusion for Brawl, edge-hogging is a really cheap tactic.

Take it as a compliment. Mine was copied lol.

I really like Snake. Mainly because he, like me, loves explosives and rocket launchers.
