Idk if i am alone in this, but having the console verison coming out so soon doesnt really make me interested in the 3ds verison and smash run doesn't look that appealing to me. So it sucks to wait, but I am just wondering if anyone else feels the same! Happy smashing

In the same boat. I was going to get both, but I got the demo and it really makes my hand cramp up, not to mention that I lost a lot of hype when the final roster was revealed and none of my wanted newcomers got in, and they cut some of the characters I like. Personally, the only thing that the 3DS has going for it is portability right now - since Nintendo really wants to make the same game twice, I don't see the point in getting it twice. Now if they actually did make it as two games, I probably would get both, but as of now, we're getting SSB43DS and SSB43DS-in-HD. Still not a fan of that, considering that Ice climbers and Pokemon Trainer were cut because of the 3DS limitations, and that's been confirmed.

However, if this Tower of Smash leak ends up being true and we need to hook them together to get Mewtwo and Ridley, I will download the 3DS version that second.

Even if I did own a 3DS, I doubt I'd be interesting in playing Smash on that system. It just doesn't come across as the ideal method of playing the game. I'd much rather wait for the Wii U version so I can play the game the way it was meant to be played.

I personally couldn't care less about the 3DS version.
It's cool it exists but it feels too empty to be a full game.
The Wii U version is gonna be delicious.

I'm also waiting for Wii U version. After seeing all this hype though, I do want the 3DS version, but sadly my 3DS was stolen quite some time ago. :'(

How does it feel empty? It's a portable Smash Bros. game with as many game modes as previous incarnations. That's a landmark in content for a 3DS game.

How much more could you want?

When i do get the Wii U version the 3DS will collect dust, its obvious which one is superior.

I bought the 3DS version, but so far I just find it kind of awkward. The circle pad just isn't working very well for me as the method of jumping, and the screen is just too small for this kind of game. Plus, even though the character roster is huge (considering where I initially thought it would be, with the 3DS limiting it) and the Classic Mode is much more varied than Brawl's, the game feels a bit empty.

Have you tried turning Tap Jump off in the Options and using X/Y to jump?

I found it frustrating as well using Control Pad to jump, especially when I'm trying to Up-Tilt/Smash. Turning it off and using Y makes things a lot more consistent. ;)

I never said it was empty as a handheld.
What I implied was that as the fourth incarnation of a series; to be a stand-alone--
It's empty.

Don't get so angry.

I'm only getting the Wii U version as well. I bought my Wii U last year just for preparation for this game, but I kinda wish I own a 3DS though. I really do wanna play...

I wasn't being angry. The way you worded your post"...it feels to empty to be a full game." made me think of the game content, which stumped me 'cos from what I've played, there's plenty of content for a Smash game. The fact it's a portable Smash game with only so much memory and RAM to run it, made me even more confused over how it could be considered "empty in content." It's chock full of it.

But empty "as a standalone game" is a little hard to question over when I don't see how it's "empty." Excluding all little tidbits of gameplay changes and new mechanics, it's the same Smash game to me. Better than Brawl now, I can say.

I'm in the same boat. I'm waiting things out until the Wii U version. There's a great deal of hype gravitating around the 3DS version, but I do not own one, and I don't feel the need to get one just for Smash when I've already got a Wii U with titles I'll actually play. Also, a portable Smash Bros. seems strange to me. It's a cool idea, but it's a game I much rather play on the big screen with my friends. I also hear a number of reviewers who complain about cramping due to the 3DS' control scheme, that's enough to deter me seeing as Smash is a game I plan to play a lot.

It still amazes me that people still go around saying "Am I the only one who Xs or Ys" as if their opinion or perception isn't shared with someone else out of 4 billion people

Me, been playing the demo for many many hours, and the 3DS version is amazing by the looks of it. This game is really hype for me, and i'd rather save all my hype for the better version. So i'm passing on the 3DS version, also could care less about smash run.

I kinda feel the same way. it doesnt have a stage builder, smash run doesnt look that interesting IMO, and the modes look skimpy. When you look at melee and its event matches and brawl with event matches, boss battles, subspace, you can look at smash 3ds and feel like its empyty. That mostly has to do with the handheld limitations and if smash wii u has as little modes I would be disappointed, but I feel that will have a stage builder (hopefully), event matches, and hopefully a boss battle mode. still alot of mystery surrounding smash!

All I'm saying is, for 40-45$ bucks or whatever Smash 3DS is cool for what it is.
If that game was on the Wii U my heart would shrivel up inside of me.

I'm currently not planning on getting the 3DS version. I don't have a 3DS and I want to hold out for the New 3DS so that I can get Xenoblade, plus I feel that an updated version is going to be coming on the New 3DS & Wii U and if that happens, I want to get that. I'm content with enjoying the Wii U version.

Ya I don't have money for both Wii U and 3DS which is a shame cuz the 3DS has so many great games like Link between worlds and Luigis Mansion 2 etc. I'm just getting a Wii U but I know it's gonna be so worth it. Any console Smash is a system seller for me!

It's missing:

Event matches
Rate of Items
Less stages than Brawl
Tons of Old stages
Less Control options
Shorter Classic Mode
No Boss Rush
Is target test missing? I have no clue.
No stage builder
No adventure mode. Although to be fair, it has Smash Run. So there's that.

All in all, it has more content than Smash 64, but less than Melee and Brawl. It's nowhere near Brawl levels. However, I WILL consider the game as a fantastic achievement. It runs beautifully, and looks brilliant. It has as much content as a portable smash should, but not enough to be considered on the same level as Melee and Brawl.

I have a 3ds but no wiiu so I got the 3ds to tide me over till monies. I'll admit that if it were the other way around or if I had both, I wouln't bother with the 3ds version when a better one comes out in a month.

Same. In fact, I'm pretty vexed at the idea of Nintendo putting development costs on a 3ds version in the first place. They could've easily put that money on something epic like Subspace Emissary with co-op online whilst putting the Brawl rejects on the roster that were victim to 3ds's limitations. It definitely would've put a lot of pressure on consumers to buy a Wii U if the 3ds version didn't exist.

You'd have to be really poor or a budget gamer to not get this game. Be a true fan and buy all the smash games.
I never bought a game in 2 years. I've been saving solely for a 3DS/Wii U and Smash 4 for each version. ;)

Down on the corner, out in the street.
I was going to initially going to purchase Smash 4 and the New 3DS (since it comes out 21st November in Australia), but today I played the Smash 4 Wii U demo and Smash 4 3DS at the EB Games Expo and i have to say....Wii U. Honestly the 3DS version is a great game but... the Wii U version is just a superior game, compared to Smash 4 3DS imo.

Besides the graphic superiority, the game has no lag unlike the 3DS version, it also (IMO) felt faster than the 3DS version as a whole. Also we got to use the Smash 4 game cube controllers and the saw the adapter and everything, and the game controlled ALOT better with the gamecube controller.

Plus the Wii U will probably be the definitive version of Smash 4 anyway. Also if the console version DOES come out on the 21st of November, i'll be staring at an unused copy of smash 4 for about a month and a few days :(

I absolutely love the 3DS version. I haven't had any of these dealbreaking bits that many have had(but I'll put up with most anything :p), but it's obvious the Wii U version will be the definitive version all around, no question, but credit where it's due; Smash on a handheld that isn't a trainwreck? Noice.

are you telling me you avoided spoilers for this game? like secert characters and all that?
No, sorry I probably should have specified lol. I know the whole roster, but I meant that I don't want to get too used to the characters and such for 3 months before Smash Wii U comes out. I'm afraid I'll get smash fatigue pretty much.

Not trying to dump on your post, neither have I read if someone else said the same thing but there is less content than melee in this game. No event match, no adventure mode... just no. Maybe it has a bit more content than melee but for this to be a sequel to brawl, it feels empty. Not even a proper intro.
