Our venue is moving and we're going to be trying to eliminate the need for people to bring setups. We're looking for new flatscreen TVs that can be mounted to the wall and can run Melee without the input lag and stuff. Does such a thing exist? Any suggestions?

It can technically be used with a Gamecube, but you will be hard-pressed to find a component cable for the Gamecube. Apparently nobody third-party makes them, and the official ones from Nintendo are so rare that eBay and Amazon list them in the price range of around $100-$200 each.

We have cube cables. Just need TVs. Will the cubes need to have special settings or will it be plug and play?

...Are you absolutely certain you have component (red/green/blue) cables, and not composite (yellow)? As I mentioned, they're incredibly rare, and only supported by Gamecubes that were manufactured before May 2004.

If you do indeed have the correct cables, you should've already seen the option when starting up Melee - before the intro screen starts and around the same point that it would mention you have no memory card in the slot, it would say it detected component cables and ask if you would like to enable progressive scan.

Crap. If I don't use these $200 cables will the lag be too much for people to play?

Pfft. Flat Screen. You don't want that lag crap... Lets get into business here...
Dat Sony 43" Tube T.V... Oh How beautiful that would be. No Lag with Melee..... OR Any old game.
The Cost is though.
Throwing out your back with 4 other people to carry this big boy in.
For the Greater Cause...
Melee.

I need something to mount to the walls to save space.

There's an old thread on the Shoryuken boards talking about low lag monitors and HDTVs. You may want to check here at http://forums.shoryuken.com/discussion/145141/sub-1-frame-hdtvmonitor-input-lag-database.

However these are all probably going to need component cables, which means you're more or less locked into using Wiis unless you were lucky enough to have the rare GCN component cable. On top of that, you'll need to make sure your cubes can use the cable, as Nintendo took out that port on later models.

I also salute your efforts to eliminate the need for players to bring setups. I think it's kind of unrealistic given the headaches and cost, but definitely cool.

anything that requires upscaling will lag unless (i think) you have something specifically to process the upscaling faster, and even then its not exactly lagless. plus they're really expensive

best bet for portable lagless play...use dolphin :awesome:

Again, the TVs I talked about are EDTV, or 480p native. With component, they would have literally no lag.
