The few characters I really care about either way:
Jigglypuff: keep, it is always fun to win against others with an unconventional, yet awesome, character.

Sheik: keep as a separate character, it would free up \/B and Zelda never really complemented sheik in any way.

Captain Falcon: I don't know, I have never played against a good CF player so I'm in no position to say how I feel.

Doc. Mario: out, a clone that didn't add anything remotely new/different

Pichu: no, the same as pikachu but with the awesome ability to harm itself

Roy: out, he is the Jiggs killer (my main), he has been known to ohko jiggs on corneria w/ ^B. that is not right. <---HORRIBLY BIASED

Marth: Keep, fun/annoying to play against.

G&W: Out, he irked me in a way impossible to pin down. to be frank, I hated his moveset and lack of weight coupled with no speed/power.

Just how I feel about certain characters.

One thing I'm curious about is why are people excluding Luigi?

So true, I forgot about him. He will obviously be in, as he isn't a clone, and can be equipped with the vaccum cleanes from Luigi's Mansion (Mario got the FLUDD, so Luigi deserves something new too).

Ness- maybe, maybe not
Jigglypuff- Keep, Why remove a completely original character who already has a moveset?
Captain Falcon- Keep, simple as that
Mr. Game & Watch- See Jigglypuff
Falco- Eh, I believe he'll be removed but I suppose someone could piece together a new moveset for him
Dr. Mario- Not only a clone but looks identical to whom he is cloning. Get rid of him
Pichu- Not very popular, Pikachu clone, pushing the Pokemon limit already, Remove
Mewtwo- See Jigglypuff
Marth- Popular, First main character in Fire Emblem Series, most reoccuring character in FE (as of Fire Emblem DS)
Roy- Sadly, Roy was in for advertising purposes and was a clone of Marth. As awesome as he is, I don't see him returning
