Any advice on how to practice DI when alone?

I only play friends on weekends, while they pretty much play with each other more regularly. Needless to say, they've been getting better at DI quicker then I have, and it's really frustrating to be auto combo'd by Sheik >_<.

So any pointers?

Since I have access to the debug menu on my Melee ISO I like to go to Falco's Target Test stage and run into the bumpers. You can practice running into them in different ways and then using Smash DI to change the direction you're sent. Sending yourself into the wall to the left is also a good way to practice wall teching/wall tech jumping.

This is just what I do to practice DI by myself, I'd love to know of other methods.

Assuming you have 2 controllers, you can use both. Accumulate damage with the second controller to whatever extent you would like. Then hit the c-stick on the second controller with your foot or something and DI normally with the first controller.

What I do to help, is get a character on the second port (Bowser, Ganondorf), set the Damage Ratio higher, and simulate high % hits by using Ganon's or Bowser's Smash attacks, and then DI'ing with the first like Gravitirax said.
