========================================

Another Castle Video Games is hosting yet another Super Smash Bros tournament, but this time around we're doing it for the Nintendo 64! The last smash event we held had over 25 attendees - let's see if we can make this one even larger!

I (Gimpyfish62) will be hosting, running the live stream, and even actually entering the tournament this time around! We all hope to see you there, if you have any questions feel free to come into the store and ask us, or post in this event and we'll answer your questions as quickly as possible.

This event is going to be in 1 v 1 format.

SCHEDULE
11:30am: Tournament Sign-ups open
11:30am: Casual set-ups open
12:30pm: Tournament Sign-ups close
12:50pm: Casual set-ups close
1:00pm: Tournament begins!

Casual set-ups WILL open back up as the tournament progresses, so don't rush out the door if you don't have any more tournament matches left!

Tournament rules are going to be standard for competitive Smash 64 events - we'll be using the Official 64 Back Room Recommended Ruleset. Full rules can be found below, or in the following link.

http://www.smashboards.com/threads/the-official-64br-recommended-ruleset.295918/

Game Settings

Mode: STOCK
Stocks: 5
Handicap: OFF
Team Attack: ON
Stage Select: ON
Damage: 100%
Item Switch: NONE
All Characters Available

Stages

The Starter Stage List consists of Congo Jungle, Hyrule Castle and Dream Land.
The Counterpick Stage List consists of Peach's Castle.

First match of all sets is selected by a 3-stage striking system with the Starter Stage List. An impartial observer/tournament organiser flips a coin to decide who strikes first. Rock-paper-scissors is alright too, but it's technically a skill irrelevant to smash. If this is impossible (online), whoever strikes first will be pre-decided by an RNG.

The 64 Recommended Ruleset uses the stage striking system. In this system, players take turns striking stages from the Starter Stage List until only one remains; these stages are not banned and can be counterpicked later in the set.

Characters

All characters are legal.

Black DK (Right-C), Dark Samus (Down-C) and Dark Falcon (Right-C) are discouraged if Congo Jungle is the stage for visibility reasons. The opposing player may reset the match without penalty if they wish for a colour change. Taking or dealing any damage nullifies this right.

Set Procedure

Players select characters for first match. Double Blind Picks may be called.
Players strike stages.
The first match is played.
The loser of the previous match selects the next match's stage from the Starter Stage and Counterpick Stage Lists.
The winner of the previous match selects their character.
The loser of the previous match selects their character.
The next match is played.
Above four steps are repeated if necessary.

Maybe I'll use Kirby or something I dunno.

Or maybe I can unrust and then get some of the better people to 2v1 me on stream, that would be fun.

Hmmm. I wonder if this is worth the trip. Meeting Jel and Kefit would be sweet. But it would take 4 hours to drive there

Yea man cmon you gotta go. You need to drive down friday night, stay with kefit or jel friday and saturday night, and come home sunday night. You'll be so pro when you come back from playing > 30 hours of smash in 2 days.

Jel/Kefit, would one of you guys be willing to let me stay at your place Friday night? I would leave after the tourny on Saturday so it would only be one night. I would go for sure if that works for you guys

Ehhh, I wouldn't stress out about making it to this event. The UW tournament in March drew a large pool of players (including all the skilled local players with no online Smash community presence), but it also was a charity event located on a major college campus. I wouldn't really expect a similar turn-out at a store based retro gaming event. I'm honestly kind of worried that this is just going to be a lame 10 man bracket - it certainly wouldn't be the first time Jel and I have gotten hyped for a local SSB64 tournament only to have our hopes and dreams crushed. But I sure am hoping I'm wrong and we end up with a great event. We'll see!

And unfortunately I can't offer lodging.

In either case, definitely hit me and Jel up if/when you find yourself in the Seattle area. I'm always happy to play against new people. I'm hoping to get some SSB64 going at PAX this summer, if you happen to be attending.
