Just came back from an NJ tourn where a handful of meta knights tore up the competition and literally tore up my yoshi... again. 3 stocked this time. THREE stock. I am no master but i KNOW how to play Yoshi. there is just no competing with a good meta knight. a good one.. I can take the average ones. But a good meta knight, and it doesn't take very hard to be a good meta knight just simply out priorities yoshi in everything.. HIS NAIR breaks through Yoshi's super armor for pete sake!!! EFF sakurai for putting all his effort into his own chars..

Alright heres all the advice ive got:

Play defensive, but dont be afraid to be aggressive if they are off balance.
They are going to approach, so combine RETS, pivot grabs, and retreating bairs to keep them at bay. Its not gonna be easy, so u want as much little damage as possible
Besides that, at higher percents try to lure airdodges and then finish wit and uair.

Besides that, ur fu**ed.

he's yoshi's hardest matchup IMO. harder than g&w, marth, anyone else you want to pick.

as far as advice, i don't do well against him myself, usually. remember, egg tosses work cause he has no projectile. i don't think approaching him on the air is gonna be effective. short hops might be effective, but i don't know for sure. if he's spamming tornado, just throw eggs, or wait for him to cool down then get some hits in. a lot of his specials are like that, i try to pay attention to when he's vulnerable. if you are gonna approach him in the air, everything has to be timed perfectly. and being very aggressive against him has never worked for me, as his priority is just cheap.

I went to a tourney today and fought a few good metaknights. I wasn't 3 stocked, usually 1 or 2 (with extremely high percent) but hey a loss is a loss. I did force the MKs to change they're strategy though, yoshi's bair hit negates MKs attack after his shuttle loop then the next 3 hit him, and when they come at you with a tornado try to pivot grab them, it's usually new to a MK when his tornado actually gets broken for once. Although I do know pivot grabbing is hard to pull off when all you want to do is not get caught up in a ridiculous attack.

:yoshi: Two things I use when fighting Meta Knight.

1] Do not jump.
2] Do not up air without the intent to KO.

Use those tips and you should start doing at least a little better.

thanks guys.. those were some good tips. Ill try to incorporate them. I just get so angry when I have wonderful matches versus the majority of the chars in the game and then boom, in storms MK and ur out. =/ But yeah I really didn't change my strategy towards him and kept playing extremely aggressive. I am going to another tournament today where the same Meta Knight will be there (dmbrandon) and I am hoping to get a few more MK practice in. Maybe ill try and get some videos for you guys and see what you think....

Also Yoshi forum rocks. I was waiting to get flammed by the lot of you but you were all very supportive (as dramatic as that sounds.) YOSHI!

i'm done going to other forums, there are some very unintelligent, not well thought out posts on other boards. if you ever want to laugh, just go to them and see what they say about yoshi.

Just another day.
Why would we come to flame you if you are having trouble against metaknights? Only people who don't care would do that sort of thing.

Alright well i played a pretty good meta knight today, and he was kicking my ***. Im not sure if it will work on dmbrandon (who is probably better than this one), but i found that running away helps. From a dash away from them, u can pivot grab, ETS, and bair, and all 3 of those are useful. IF he uses tornado shield the WHOLE thing. U want MK above u, from there u can deal damage with relative safety. I would disagree w/ shiri and say that uairs are useful anytime. Dont try to jump far off to edgeguard, ull get killed. Try to stay grounded as much as possible unless you are doing a bair. U want not put urself in an area where u can get hit, because even one hit from MK can lead to 60+ damage that u cant stop, and possibly a kill up top.

well, just came back from nyc weeklies. Lost again to an MK and a Rob.. both mk matches came down to the last hit so I am getting better verse them. That yoshi plays almost identical to how I play, at least verse mk. my first rob match i lost big time, didnt know what to expect, then the second match it came down to the last hit..

That was a really good video. Did you see how much harder that yoshi had to work though... so unfair =(
