Android Hacking Thread

I've always been into cell phone hacking, I've hacked every cell phone I've owned, even my old black and white LG flip phone that I had 6 years ago. My latest phone is the Motorola Droid, and I never knew why I didn't attempt root it.

A couple of days ago I decided to do so and got through it successfully, and now discovering the potential of my phone now. Has anyone else rooted their Android phone? What kind of stuff do you do on it now? I've now got access to wireless tethering (though I had wired tethering before), and a bunch of cool apps like a screenshot app, quick rebooting, and can do things like overclocking. Though now I'm learning about installing custom ROMs.

I just tried to install Sapphire .84 or w/e version it was. It booted to the loading animation of the jem but didn't advance to the phone. I was like @_@ but luckily I restored back to my backup I made minutes prior with no issues.

my droid has been rooted pretty much since i got it cuz i was reading about it before i bought stuff

i run jrummy remix .8 its beast its basically the last 2.1 mod he made...he has a really good 2.2 mod called kangerade but i wanna wait until they build it from the actual update as opposed to the leaked build since i hear that users have been having problems with maps and fb and other stuff that i use

basically i like to tether with mine and i use setcpu to overclock...metamorph is a cool app for theming but the theme that comes with the custom rom is cool enough for me

Just installed a legit Froyo on my droid. Turns out they've had the final froyo for a lil bit now, i thought they just had the RC that had wifi disabled but this is full

Yeah, tether your internet to your phone then cut off your service once your comfortable with it and have the calling functions down. Saves you serious cash.

I got Froyo on my Droid Incredible. Although I need to downgrade so I can update to Radio 2.x and then re-update to Froyo so I can get my camcorder working. @_@

I have a Droid X, which has a locked Bootloader. Currently, Alldroid.org has a Dev Droid X and are nearly to the point where they will have custom booting. They have a custom .SBF, which means we can boot into 2.2 (or any other OTA updates) without unrooting, which is AWESOME.

As for hacking, myself, I'm not too interested. I am interested in writing apps for Android, though. Learning how to do that now.

I got Froyo working on my Incredible with Radio 2.x now and everything.

I just got the legit final version of Froyo (in rooted form) for my Droid. Turns out the version I've been running was one version behind, the last beta or something. They actually took out the little bit of 3D in the apps menu, but it makes it run faster.

Yea so my touchscreens like broken. It goes crazy wonky every now and then, and now the very right edge of it never works, so when typing on screen vertical I can't hit any keys on the right most side, my search softkey doesnt work, and when using the browser or something horizontal I can't drag down my notifications bar.
On top of that my headphone jack has been wonky ever since I got my phone where it's crazy sensitive and any movement to a headphone jack while in it causes mas static.
I searched both of these problems online and it seems I'm not the only one with it.

So I was able to just go back to stock everything (flashed back to 2.0.1 no root with no sprecovery), to the point where I had to re-activate my phone with verizon lol. gonna head out to the store now to take advantage of my awesome warranty plan
Wow how amazing would it be if they ran out of Droids and gave me a Droid 2.

So the new Verizon store in my town is only a reseller, I would have to go to a corporate store, which is only 15 miles away no biggie. However I called them before I went to ask them about it and they said I have to do it online since they have no more Droids in stock. Why won't they just give me a Droid X/2!?!?!?

besides droid one is better anyway so much customization for it you can't go wrong

Got FlyX, the first custom boot for Droid X on my phone. It really isn't different other than no bloatware, and a new boot sequence. I am going to add the Tranquility mod soon, and I am running the Gala theme. It looks NICE.

Anyone have an HTC Hero on Sprint, and can suggest a good custom ROM for that?

Officially, no, I think there may be a slow trickle of releases, but nothing yet. Unofficially, we are in our second version as of last week.
