I'll be honest. The hardest thing to get use to with Snake was his odd Smash attacks. They were slow , punishable , and unweildy. It took me 4 loses to reliaze you coudln't spam the Smash attacks with Snake , so I decided to put smahes on hold while I practiced the fine art of grenading. The nades , the tilts , and C4 were enough to KO anybody and raise hell in Free for All. But I figured I was ignoring a large , and potinealy useful , part of Snakes game. So the smashes. Now this cocnculsion comes from just 8 hours of gameplay ( not all at once. I actually have a life:))

Down Smash: Landmine

Once I relized this was as good as a personal motion sensoer bomb from Melee I was hooked....untill I found out it wasn't nearly as affecive. For starters the lag on this move made it preety much usely in stragiht up one on one fights against fast chracters. And for another thing the damage and knockback weren't nearly as impresive as I imagined it. As of now I have never KOed anyone with this move. And finally it's biggest flaw: It dispares. That's right. Gone. Vasinhed. Nothing there. And at first you set up a move to land your oppent there , you plug up your ears getting ready for a boom..1..2...3....no boom. What!? Naturaly you go down to check..BOOM! WTF!
This werid glitch made me love this move a LOT less. Score: **

Up Smash: Motar

At first this thing looked useless. I mean unless somebodies directly on top of you it looked like crap. Till I relized it came out FAST. And the fact that people tend not to look up to see the shell coming back , particarly when I've just droped a grenade. Oh Snake gets his own unique dash attack from this. Plus he can pop foes in the air with the Motar itself. At high precatges it works intailly as a great launcher and a great BOOM! I'll admit I haven't KOed anyone with it but the possiblites are limtless. Score: ****

Foward Smash: Bazoka

WTF! It came out as a surpires when I first played Snake. I had the guy on the run and was about to Smash him thinking my Forard Smash would be a stronger version of Snakes God-like forward tilt. And I pull out a freakin bazoka. At first I was Sweetness! Then I was WTF! It was too...****...SLOW! There is no freakin way to use it in a toe to toe fight. I'll give you this. It's power is legandary and admidly I have KOed some with it ( usually in mulitiplayer) but its way to uncovential and I can see only a few situations were you can actually use it. Yeah edggaurding is one but the missles and C4 work so much better. But hey at least it doesne't disaper on you. :) Score: ***

Again this is only from 8 hours of play but I think its a preety acurate assesment of Snakes poweress.

Uh, the land mine is always visible when you plant it...I think...I never have problems remembering where I planted it anyway.

Welcome to SWF post-Brawl.

WHO NEEDS GOOD TOPICS ANYMORE
lawlz. more like too many repeating topics. But then again I wasn't on SWF when melee first came out....maybe it was similar to how it is now.....

The landmine shouldn't be placed in a one on one match when your fighting your opponent. It's more of a move to use when you have spacing. Or when you KO someone (and your damage isn't high enough so your own mine would kill you) you can lay a fully charged one down.

And they do kill, just not at low percentages like the Melee proximity mines. And of course don't use them on levels that change (usually the best place to put them is near edges so it restrains people's recovery area or on top of platforms so people can't jump onto them as easily).

For the fsmash, you generally use it when you have cover (fire a mortar up, then use it, so if someone were to try to hit or grab you they'd get smacked by the mortar). But yeah, I generally don't use it myself since it's extremely situational.

I see the fsmash as a move you have to set-up into. But the payback is usually a kill which makes it worth it to use.

I've found the land mine quite useful. You just have to watch when you use it. In a 1 vs 1 you can plant after a kill while waiting for them to spawn. You could also plant while they're recovering, though that might be time better spent edgeguarding. And keeping track of it is really important, because despite your analysis, that thing has KOed a lot for me. And it doesn't dissapear that fast.

The Fsmash is really laggy though, I haven't really found a use for it (other than accidentally using it while screwing up a dash attack or an ftilt. **** controls...).

Hey an actually useful answer. Seriolsy though yeah this kinda is opnion based. What part of "from my 8-hours of play" did you not get? I just happen to think the landmine is a piece of crap move that is drawfed by Snakes better ones and I've yet to find another person ( or match) to change my mind.

Okay, I'm going to say this now, there isn't a SINGLE (NOT ONE!) attack that you shouldn't use with Snake in a 1v1 scenario.

The landmine really isn't a move you use to kill like most other smashs attacks that Snake or other characters may have. It's more to limit someone's movement. Though it can kill if people are at high damages ands they do touch it. Though that only happens if they forget about it, or they're thrown into or near it.

I believe you can also use the C4 to set it off early if you'd like. Though yes, extremely situational and whether you'll find a use for it is pretty much opinion (it may or may not fit your playing style).
