Yesterday I was playing a friendly against Falco, and I was recovering from 6 character lengths horizontally and almost off the screen vertically.

He sh'd to start his edgeguard attempt, but I hit him with needles. They stunned him long enough for me to recover.

Not only that, but it actually stunned him long enough for a kill.

whaddya think?

Using needles to prevent edgeguarding/edgehogging was viable in Melee, too. Along with charging needles if you had a huge height to fall from. So, it's usable, I suppose, but the lag after throwing needles still makes me wary.

I suppose my situation was special.

I was above him and falling at a 60 degree or so angle.

so in this case, I was virtually sure to hit, and if not, I still had options.

The lag on those things does need to be taken into consideration, however.

I always loved the needles, the new charging system makes me hesitant to use theneedles off edge sometimes, but in the right situation its cool

Here's another use for them!

You could do this in melee, but since it was much faster paced it wasn't exactly necessary...

Well anyway, when you're anywhere about a few feet in the air and you're falling down to the ground with an opponent charging, or waiting for you, whatever just charge them and use them as a spacing tool. If the opponent is charging shoot the needles at a 45 degree angle to stun him, if he just on the ground then immediately when you fall shoot them.

It's hard to predict, it's almost sure you'll hit your opponent when timed right

the new needle system does make it harder to utilize them as you could in melee, but they are still excellent for mindgames. everytime you throw a needle, your opponent is trying to not get hit with them, and that can lead into combos.

It was called needle canceling in Melee, true? You can't do it anymore without getting punished since the landing lag from throwing them in the air is so awful that you might as well have landed in a pratfall trap. *facepalm at ner***e*
