These things could get pricey, if they are looking to compete with Skylanders and Disney which are about 15-20 each
I used to think I would get them all but the math tells me that won't happen for a few years, and thankfully they are going to be released in batches.

Still up Peach's dress.
Just my favourites. Don't know if it'll be even as much as ten, but it's around that mark.

Maybe one or two characters I really want to beat up though in Smash so I can create a challenging rival in single player.

Probably buy my favorites (and characters who probably wont have another figure release, wii fit trainer ect) and hold off on mario and the commonly merchandised nintendo characters.

Then switch to a few a month. Maybe hold off and see if they have sales like they have with disney infinity and skylanders at toys r us. Buy two get one free, buy one get one 40% off ect.

But I do plan on getting all the smash ones eventually.

I believe a single character is supposed to be at least 15

It would be cool to get at least 1-2, unless they're completely necessary to get certain things in the game. It seems to be a cool new feature but I don't think, from what I know about it, that it's totally worth it to get all or most of them.

there's a website in UK that has them up for pre-order at around 13 dollars, but translated to US would be around 22 dollars.
honestly it doesn't matter the price, the fact that i can own well-done little figurines of my childhood favorite video game characters
means a lot to me, and I'm excited to just get the ones i like. like theres no way I'm buying a mii amiibo.

I'm just surprised that so many people are taking this in stride. This is such a blatantly greedy thing for Nintendo to be offering, and everyone's coming up with all kinds of justifications for it...
I'll get one, but I'm not going to be proud of it. You figurine collectors hit the jackpot with this deal, but for the rest of us, this is just extortion. Squeezing as much juice as they can out of the smash franchise.

Sure, it's a convenient feature, but why not have an in-game trainable "smart" CPU as well? We're going to be able to pick between several different mii fighters, so I'm sure there could be an easy way to categorize smart CPU's. And why not let us share our smart CPU's with online friends?

It's because they want to waggle something cool in front of us. It ain't right, Jack, it's all tricks'n'games with these people

Except it's totally optional and not extorting anything. If you don't want to pay a little extra money, that's totally fine, and you're not missing out on anything huge. Of course people are going to justify something they see as perfectly fine. Sometimes you'll find that greed is a fine motivator to do great things.

In Nintendo's defense, they're in serious financial hot water right now, what with the Wii U's miserable sales and the Phillips lawsuit aiming to kick them out of their biggest market.

A little greed seems to be to be kind of necessary for survival right now.

I think I'd like to get any "legacy" characters, including:
  • Mario
  • Sonic
  • Mega Man
  • Pac-Man
If it turns out I actually enjoy and frequently use the amiibos in the game, I'd probably get other favorite characters:
  • ROB
  • Capt. Falcon
  • Samus
Also, if that custom Mii amiibo figure ever comes to fruition, I'd jump all over that.

Oh yeah, Mii Amiibos.

I'd definitely get Charlie Brown because his Mii looks the most like its source material out of my collection - the others are all clearly pieced together from Mii parts, but the Peanuts gang can be recreated flawlessly and can be passed off as render of the character itself. (He'd be a Brawler, by the way. I already have a build in mind.)

Of course it is a way to get money for Nintendo; just look at E3, Smash Bros is likely what will be the biggest saving grace for Nintendo.

The saddest part about it is that, just as it was for the gamecube, this could have made the system excessively competitive had come out as a launch for the system, just look at what Melee did (which was not at launch, but was ready shortly after). I wish they had that ready.

Obviously the RSS reader being secretly in our Gamepads the entire time (did anyone know that?) is a hint that they were waiting to do that for a while. Hopefully this is not too late. The 'make your own Mii amiibo,' which I anticipate ready next spring or november, will boost sales a lot when people order so many they don't get them in time for Christmas.

Sometimes I wish I had Reggies job. Then again I'm sure everyone believes they can do everyone elses job better.
I just truly want to see Nintendo succeed.

I've never been a collector of these things (well, not since Pokemon. And I collected all that **** with no purpose.) I am happy to now, because it has purpose, and I am happy that Nintendo will be enlisting many of you into becoming collectors as well, because it helps them in the long run.

They said the figures would be priced "competetively" with other figure-based games. I expect them to cost $10-$15 and will buy as many as I think look cool.

I'll get around 5 probably.

Mega Man, yoshi, Pikachu, and two characters that I end up using a lot in the game.

I'll probably get a Peach and Zelda one. Then maybe a couple here and there if I feel like it and am not broke.

Maybe a really cute Jigglypuff one too

Not exactly related, but does anyone else think there's a high possibility of a special edition Amiibo that costs more, but might also have more features (somehow, don't really know how that would be implemented, but the wonders of patching help)

I am 100% getting a Lucina and Robin amiibo.

I'm not sure if I'll buy too many, but if they release a ZeldaU Link Amiibo I don't think I'll be able to control myself (especially if ZeldaU's Link gets an outfit in Sm4sh). Like I would literally disown Toon Link for ZeldaU's Link in a heartbeat.

The actual in-game use of amiibo is not particularly interesting to me at the moment, though that may change.

I'll probably get amiibos for characters I like (Not necessarily characters I play as... I'll definitely get a Samus amiibo but I suck with Samus in Smash). Starting off with Robin for sure. And Ivysaur if it happens

Guaranteed buys: Jigglypuff, Kirby, Mega Man
Guaranteed buys unless they're terrible in the game: Captain Falcon, Lucina, King Dedede

Other than that, it mostly depends on price and how strong the characters are. Mr. Game & Watch, Ice Climbers, R.O.B., Ness, and Lucas have the best chances. Ivysaur too if it comes back (my hopes on that went way up thanks to the existence of Robin). On the flip side, there are at least 14 Amiibos who I couldn't bring myself to buy even if one turned out to be the best character by far.

If there's any chance of assist trophies getting Amiibos, then count me in for Lyn.

I'll probably get them all minus characters I don't really care about (Meta Knight, Robin to name a few). Definitely be getting the Ness and Jigglypuff ones.

EDIT: oh hey Jiggly above me. my babies in one

Long-term, I think I'll eventually own a couple handfuls of my favorites, just for collection's sake. And I'll likely align them in a setting resembling the trophy display in Melee with random Nintendo consoles in the background, because that would be awesome.

But I won't be buying my first one until I've fully decided on a main and secondary. After that, I'll likely get a couple just to track my records and take it from place to place. But I'd hate to buy, say, a Rosalina Amiibo only to find two weeks later that she's just not a good fit for me.

I don't think Amiibos are needed to complete a Smash collection, right? These things cost some big bucks.

I probably won't be getting an Amiibo, maybe one or two to try out, but... I'm not really impressed right now.

I've been thinking, and I think I'll treat my main Amiibos, Yoshi and Lucario, like pets.

It would be a neat writing exercise to try to give them individual personalities based on how they act and grow. It helps that my mains are just about the only characters I could get away with doing that with. That's just me being a trigger-happy author, though. Gotta write, gotta create, or I start to go nuts.

Except you're totally wrong. Without the crapmiibo, you can't do the whole ai leveling CPU thing.

Amiibo = locked content enabled by DLC. People hate that for a reason. They could have made the amiibos figurines only, not necessary keys to unlock content!!
