Destructoid didn't make the original report, it was Nintendo Nuggets who originally got an interview with him.

Also he's not a random person from 4chan, he's a world infamous troll/idiot, which is why this guy is getting any attention in the first place.

Well, anything catching Destructoid's eyes is never a good thing and clearly this is one of them. And he's not really world infamous because I never heard of the guy until now. And all he's given me in the first few seconds of that video is a terrible troll. The worst anyone can do right now is giving him attention.

It's already bad enough that literally anything other than the game itself is rare in existence.

And worst of all, I doubt Nintendo would care enough to do something about this, considering that they still get money either way.

This reminds me of that guy who tried to vandalize the Sonic Boom displays at a Gamestop because he was furious at Sonic's arms being blue. Apparently he even pepper sprayed an employee there.

I didn't know Mariotehplumber was a bit notorious on Youtube (or on Youtube at all for that matter) until just yesterday. I watched one of his videos...or, rather honestly just a small pat of it. His ranting was too painful for me to listen to after about a minute or so...

The dude's gotta have a really pathetic life if he thinks wasting so much money on something he hates is going to be worth it. All because of some petty little grudge he holds against a video game character and her fans.

That being said, though the Amiibo is relatively rare right now, Nintendo will make another big batch of them eventually, so this investment of his likely won't even matter all that much.

EDIT: Seeing a part of his recent video, I don't really know what to think. If he actually did invest on a crapton of Rosalina Amiibos, it still probably won't matter much since more will be made at some point.

And if he's trolling, then, well, he must really, really want attention. That's his problem then.

Guy's a rabid classic Sonic fan from what I've heard, so I'm likely to preorder from Amazon (Along with Robin, Lucina and ZSSamus) ASAP in the event that he decides to teach someone a lesson by throwing money at the things he hates.

What I find interesting about his plan is that people have pointed out that he seems to be targeting female characters in his "crusade".

It's probably got more to do with re-selling them for a profit, rather than stopping people from getting them. The latter rationale just doesn't make sense; the amiibo is selling, even if it's all to one person, and more will be minted.

Regardless, you're giving attention to a salior-talking troll and nothing more. It a better idea to report him and be on your merry way than johning over one person's expression of disdain over a fictional character (which his actions ironically helped said character's value and popularity). Maybe then, his "worldwide infamous status" wouldn't be such a big deal.

He indeed has a Smashboards account, but he doesn't seem to be very active in here. But you're correct, he was even against Mewtwo (before its confirmation in October 24) and said Dr. Mario would be the only one returning from Melee I think.

Considering this guy is all "don't question my gaming skills I am so pro and my opinion is fact Rosalina is a hentai stupid character and if you like her you were raised wrong" it wouldn't be surprising to me at all if he didn't take anything like that into consideration. He probably just thought one day "I hate this character and her fans so much, clearly buying a bunch of Amiibos of her is a foolproof plan" and went through with it immediately. It's clear that he lets his emotion and bias take over his mind completely and has little to no thought of rational thinking.

So he's basically complaining over one thing that's optional in SM3DW when playing as Rosalina? I don't get it man. I remember he once said in a video (Update on Nintendo) that Wario (he listed him as an example) deserves more recognition than the former character. People are tweeting him (yes, he has a Twitter account) with Rosalina images just to bother him.

The evil here lies in his petty concern for such a trivial thing as the popularity of a video game character which offers no perceivable danger to anybody. Well, except for him. It doesn't lay in the fact that he is allowed to do with his money what he pleases, granted of course the law of subjective valuation. But it's also pretty clear his intention is to make people angry, probably troll, and cause others to commit scandal, that is he is occasioning others to do wrong. Prime example of the wrong he's baited others to do is to be so massively concerned with his petty concerns where there is no chance of changing him or knowing how much harm it does him.

I'm aware of that, but Rosalina was one of the most wanted and most talked about Amiibos. She was already looking very attractive to regular scalpers, and of course, she has a huge fan base that wants her too.

Combined with only having one production run and being exclusive to Target in the US (who, thus far, have handled her extremely poorly), US buyers already had a lot to be worried about. It was already looking like she would sell out really fast. But MTP just makes matters worse if he's legit.

She'll get a restock either way, but restocking has, so far, been very sketchy in and of itself.

I've been trying to find things to hold against him legally, but...

...it turns out most states don't have a law against scalping... at least not when it comes to tickets specifically...

But as they say, "when the law is against you, pound on the facts", and the fact is that MTP's actions are damaging to the consumer market.

Another fact is that Nintendo is already and has been under fire due to having a trend of understocking Amiibo at the moment, along with not announcing discontinuations. MTP may have thought out his plan better than we're giving him credit for... because he knows that Nintendo is ignoring demand!

There has to be something we can latch on...

Legally, he is doing nothing wrong. There is nothing that can be done there.

However, Nintendo isn't ignoring demand. They just started releasing a new product. The way Amiibos took off was unprecedented. Things are rocky at first because of that. It's no different to how they underestimated HD development, which is something other companies did years ago too.
