The holiday shopping season begins today for Nintendo fans, as the first 12 amiibo interactive figures become available for pre-order at a suggested retail price of just $12.99 each. The first dozen characters available for pre-order at select retailers are Mario, Peach, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Pikachu, Kirby, Fox, Marth, Villager and Wii Fit Trainer, with more on the way in the future.

For the collectors, that's 12x $12.99 (in the US) for a total of $155.88 for all 12.

thirteen dollars is pretty good. These will be able to be used for multiple game genres, unlike the other figures such as Skylanders.

Edit: Wait, weren't Zelda and Pit originally supposed to be in the launch set? I thought they were shown at E3 too.

I doubt I'll get many of them, I'm probably just gonna play it safe and buy a Link one, and then maybe another one after a while if I'm maining somebody other than him (or just for my second best character, whoever that ends up being.)

So that's about twenty quid for Pit and Palutena, fifty for my top five mains and give or take five hundred for the entire set.

The good news is that since they're NFC tech, you can use them without taking them out of the package. If they're like Skylanders in any case.

I'm inclined to get Samus, since she was my main in Melee (and now that Zero Suit Samus is no longer attached, she may rise in the ranks again). It's difficult to say because I don't know who my main will be in U/3DS.

Eventually, I'd like to get Sonic, Pac-Man, Mega-Man, along with Mario for "legacy" characters. (Sonic is a given, however.)

12.99 is very reasonable for a great-looking figure that has added functionality. I can't wait to buy a ton of these.

Definitely getting Peach, Zelda and Samus ASAP, and hoping they give us an Ike one soon.

I'm honestly not sure if going to get a lot of them. On one hand I love collecting things such as figures but on the other hand if I do get them all it'll cost me a fortune.

I genuinely though we were going to have UK Amiibo cost more pounds than dollars, I'm glad this isn't the case.

The markup is still huge though, however I'll still get a few.

I'm extraordinarily glad the price of amiibos in Australia has gone down. They were previously listed as $30 each, and that made me sick to think about. $18 is much more manageable, and while it's still not particularly outstanding of a price, I'd now very happily buy at least several of them without much hesitation. It would be nice to have special deals in sales or such where you could save some dollars by getting two or three at once, but I'm not holding my breath.
