Something that I'm having fun with is making Amiibos that are really tough. Part of that is training but another part is the bonus effects and moves. My best Amiibo right now is a Pikachu with auto-heal, lifesteal and + attack at 0 damage along with +200 attack for -80 speed. I trained him pretty well in slow-mo battles to show him what was possible and/or punishable and he's battled extensively on every stage. It's nearly impossible to beat him in one on one stock and he usually wins at or near 0% with all of his stock/lives left when I or my friends play him.

Some of my other amiibos are still real pushovers, especially Donkey Kong who has absolutely no idea what to do about Samus' rockets despite having played against her 50+ times. :ohwell:

Kirby is pretty good with health-restoring shield, explosive perfect shield and easy perfect shield. A note on Kirby: he doesn't seem to use his inhale very effectively so I ended up giving him Ice breath in its place for his standard special.

Anyway my question for everyone is what types of bonus effect combos, specials and stat boosts have you found that are most effectively utilized by Amiibos?

So has it really just been no different than having a normal CPU?

Not exactly. They learn from you is what make them different. Whether they pick up good habits and even bad habits is entirely from a player's experience.

My Luigi amiibo Lugy has explosive and heal sheilding. He also has lifesteal. Surprisingly enough, my Mario amiibo Bidizzle has no special stats and they are 50/50 when it comes to 1v1 against each other. Lugy however can do 1v2s and win.
