Am I the only one having this ridiculous issue?

So, I have entered multiple tournaments. If you add up the number of matches I've played in, it only adds up to 3.
This has NOTHING whatsoever to do with me not being there, but rather the opposite. For example, in my most recent tournament, I lost a match, and proceeded to the loser's bracket. So to make sure what happened didn't happen, I friended the host of the tournament and my opponent, then made a smash room and waited. But my opponent never accepted my request, but a victory for him, over me was reported and then he/she moved on in the tourney.
This is very far from the first time this happened, and frankly, I'm sick of it. Is there any guaranteed way to avoid this?

Sounds like this is an issue that you have with online tournaments? A way to circumvent the problem would be to use some sort of messaging between your TO and opponents (through skype, chatroom, etc.). It is unfortunate that the TO took the word from your opponent over yours, but it may have been prevented with better communication.
