Alternative Characters?

Hi Everyone,

I was wondering how 20XX allowed different versions of characters to be chosen at character select by pressing the D-Pad for SD Remix characters and PAL characters... I assume it's not simple, but are they simply differently directed Pl files or are the original Pl files being modified in some way?

I'd like to find out how to do this!
