Alternate Control Sets GCC

I've been trying out an alternate control set, using L-trigger as my jump and x/y as grab (z is essentially neglected). However it creates the problem of making short-hopping really difficult. Anyone else use triggers for jumping and have advice on how to control i, or should i stick to default?

Also, post some of your alternate control sets, even if they're not very popular, i'm open to trying anything new.

What I currently use:
L is jump
X is footstool
Everything else is default

What I would use if I had the patience to get used to it:
A is jump
Y is attack
X is grab OR footstool
L is jump
Z is footstool OR grab, opposite what X is
up and down taunt are reversed on d-pad because #YOLO
Everything else default

Unpopular control sets?
I use wiichuck.

I use stick to shorthop, and the top and bottom of the dpad to up and down-smash, respectively.
I've considered using c to side-smash, but I just can't get used to it, even if it is more convenient.

EDIT: this is a gcc thread.

oopsy doops.

If using a shoulder button to Jump, i'd use Z. It will be easier to SH as the overall motion to press the button is smaller.

Currently I use
R is Attack
X is Footstool

R is for DACUS. X because why not?
I'm considering switching X to Shield for Power Shielding. You have to click shield for PS to work. So hopefully it will increase my PS accuracy.

Practiced this for awhile
B = Grab
Y = Special
Hold the controller Javi Style - Don't grab the controller with your right hand. Instead hold it over the buttons like an Arcade Stick.

With these controls you can 'Plink Dash' to wavedash. Quickly Roll your fingers over X, A, and then B (grab) to execute a wavedash. How that works:
X does the jump.
A does nothing. - Pressing Attack does nothing during your jump squat.
B (grab) does the air dodge. - Pressing Grab while Holding A will make you shield.

Ended up not using that control scheme. I have held the controller too long the traditional way to try and get used to it.

Last one is pretty unique
Default Controls.
Hold the Joystick slightly down when plugging in your controller. (Right before the point which causes you to Crouch.)

This sets the center/resting position to slightly up. So when you Press Attack, the character will UpTilt. Making it super duper easy to spam. :3

This is my current setup

As I said in the other thread where I posted this first, if I could go back in time and not play 10 years of Melee with the default controls, I think setting A to jump and Y to attack would really help. It would make certain things a lot easier to do.

thanks for the input. @LD50 you said R spring removed, you mean you took your controller apart and took out the spring? just curious, is that tournament legal? i will probably never play a tournament, but i'm just curious

Trying the A button jump. its tough to get used to, but i kinda like it

That's right. I had to order a special tri-wing screwdriver off Amazon, but after that it's really easy. Gamecube controllers have the most well-put-together innards I've seen in a controller. Very simple to modify stuff.

Removing the springs is probably going to be perfectly fine in the vast majority of tournaments you may or may not attend. But if you're ever worried you can ask the Tournament Organizer beforehand.

I originally had the springs removed from both shoulder buttons, but I decided to put one back in so I could take advantage of light shielding when (if?) it eventually makes its way into PM. I chose to put the spring back in the L button because I use it for L-cancelling and I use the R button for wavedashing, which I find easier to do without a spring.

What I use, probably the most common setup:
Everything default
Y to footstool
R to attach for DACUS
Tapjump off

What I should use but am too lazy to get used to:
A to jump
B to shield (makes wavedashing hella easy)
X to attack
Y to special
R to attack

I've tried changing it up, but it just gets too complicated if you ever want to play melee or 64 or you have to move to another wii.

So I keep it default minus tap jump, and I have learned to claw Y for jump and A for Dacus.
