Background Info: Look here on this post from Smashboards, it’s how I got my inspiration to make this moveset. https://smashboards.com/threads/akira-howard-protagonist-enlists-into-battle-astral-chain.487680/ Now let’s get one thing straightened out, the MC of the game Astral Chain is not named Akira. The MC has a twin named Akira, the MC is named whatever you want to call them but the core name Akira goes to the win and not you. Which is why I’m referring to this character as Legionis.

Run Speed will be lesser than Diddy Kong, close to that of Bowser’s. Jump Height will be like Marth and Lucina’s, in the weight class of Hero. Air Speed is like Zelda’s and Fall Speed is like Robin’s.

Jab: Right from its home game, jab attack would be the combo attack used for the X-Baton. When mashing the button, you get the chance to summon your Legion automatically with a follow up attack. In Legion Mode, the jab will have whatever Legion you want do a few attacks as your animations go.

Dash Attack: The dash attack would be a slide covering a small to mid range, it would have some end lag but not too serious. In Legion Mode, the Legion will use some follow up attack.

Tilt Attacks: Forward tilt I’ll be the main Gladius combo you use in Astral Chain, it’s slow but has some damage and knockback. Down tilt would be a simple sweep kick that’s similar to Mario, it’s good for combos. Up tilt would be an upwards flying kick, a direct reference to the game’s launching kick.

Smash Attacks: All of the Smash Attacks will feature the Gladius baton, or the heavy baton in the game. Forward Smash is a swift slash, which looks similar to Ike’s Side B, which can be both tilted and followed up with a Legion. Up Smash is like Ike and Ganondorf’s except it can be followed up with a Legion when mashing A. Down Smash for the Legionis would be a full sweep kick with the Gladius baton following you behind the leg.

Aerials: Neutral Air will be like Joker’s, using the Gladius baton doing a 360 spin in the air. Forward Air will be a simple two part slash of the Gladius Baton, not super quick but does some good damage. Back Air will be a quick move with the X-Baton, like Robin back air except just a bit quicker and slightly weaker. Down Air will be an Ike down air but using the Gladius Baton. Up Air will be an upwards swing of the Gladius baton.

Specials: Neutral Special will fire the Blaster. It can be angled upwards, downwards, and from behind. When using the Blaster in the air, it changes to where it’s like a small force from the blaster. When it fires, a field of damage is dealt to the opponent. Holding down both the B button and Shield, similarly to Inkling, will change Legions, just like Shulk’s Monado Wheel. The legions will be the five you get in the game as the main protagonist, Sword, Bow, Axe, Beast, and Arm. I’ll get into Legions soon, but let’s keep going with Specials. Side Special will be Hit Rush, a rush of attacks that can be used with just Legionis and any of the Legions. It has a charge to it but it’s lesser in range and charging than something like Ike’s Side Special. Down Special will be very unique in a way so I’ll get into that along with the Legions. Up Special was hard for me to do but I decide to use the chain like a tether, kinda like Joker. (I got kinda lazy and somewhat uncreative for the Up B) But unlike Joker, the Legionis can angle it, in exchange for a somewhat slow startup similar to Byleth’s Up Special.

Grabs and Throws: The Legionis will have two grabs, the normal grab will be an up close grab with a pummel similar to that of Joker’s, using his knee. Forward throw will be a kick pushing the opponent away which will send them flying in a more vertical direction. Down throw will be a forward flip and the Gladius being driven down into the opponent like a full on slam, this will send them in a more diagonal direction for follow ups. Up throw will be a backward flip kick, sending them in the air. Back Throw will be a spin to get behind the opponent and getting a good swing with the Gladius sending them flying backwards, the motion would be similar to that of Mii Swordfighter’s tornado neutral B.

Legions: The 5 Legions you use will be like Joker’s Arsene, but if Arsene could be sent out like a pseudo-puppet character and did his own attacks. The Legions would run on a stamina meter just like their home game, whenever it runs out you’d have to wait for it recharge. The Legions can be sent out at certain ranges, I would say on how you would flick them when at a distance, flick the stick fast and it goes not far at all, holding the stick in a certain direction would send the Legion out for an attack. It’ll go like Simon and Richter’s Side Special except reversed. The same goes for Back Air, Down Air, and Up Air. If you hold the C-sticks or just use the L-stick and A, the Legion will go out and lay some blows. This would only really happen if you were at a far range and using Legions. When double tapping the C-Stick or tap the C-stick forward then press A again, you’ll do a Chain Jump. The Chain Jump allows you to get more close up and maybe even help recover, it even has a follow up attack. But when using the Chain Jump, it’ll take a normal jump meaning you have to consider if you want to actually do said Chain Jump. Tilts and Aerials will change as well, and small note they all will have the same Up B except for Beast since that certain Legion is mainly restricted to land. Each Legion will have their own unique set of moves. Also certain moves can be followed up but I won’t go super in-depth. Aerials will be very swingy or close depending on the way you flick the C Stick, Neutral Air will swing the Legion all around or it’ll follow your motions and do a spin with its weapon, giving it some extra attack range. Forward Air will be sending the Legion out at a range or doing a slash like attack depending on the weapon, same goes with Back Air and Down Air.

The Sword Legion is a basic yet powerful and up close kind of Legion. The Side Special for Sword will be Dual Hit Rush, the Sword Legion gets sent out for an attack animation and when it hits, the Legion and it’s user attack from both sides at the same time. Neutral Special will be Triple Sword, blades that circle around the Legion for a certain amount of time or depending how much damage the blades take. It can be used as a walking hit box sort of like Vergil with Summoned Swords. Down Special will be Power Boost, giving an attack boost which can only be used once per stock, which also lasts about 14 seconds.

The Arrow Legion is a range based Legion, during barrages of projectiles. It’s Neutral B will be Arrow Blast, whenever Legionis is during the gun, the Arrow Legion will help with partial barrages. In the end, it will do a follow up firing a pseudo-R.O.B. like beam in the shape of an arrow at the end. It’s Side Special is Air Shot, the Arrow Legion firing into the air and arrows will rain down on the opponent. It’s Down Special will be Slow Shot, Arrow Legion fires a single arrow into the air and if it hits, the opponent is slowed down like Bayonetta Witch Time. However it can be air dodged, normally dodged, or reflected. It can miss if they’re running around but if they’re standing still and shielding they can be hit and they will be slowed down.

The Beast Legion is a fast land type Legion using feral attacks like a wolf. The Neutral Special will be Ride, allowing Legionis to ride the Beast Legion while automatically dodge certain attacks but it can only dodge for so long that it begins to slow down like usual dodging. Side Special will be Beast Tornado, Legionis will grab the Beast Legion by its chain and it’ll swing it around like a tornado. This can be avoided by simply jumping due to it it being a more ground struck move. Down Special will be Howl, this move will stun the enemies like the Deku Nut, making them dizzy. This has a certain radius to it, which can be avoided but when hit by it, it’ll last like a normal shield break. Since the Beast Legion won’t have a recovery since it’s more land struck, I decided to give it the skill Speed Star, making it faster for a limited amount of time. When switching to a new Legion, Speed Star will stop. It can only be used once per stock like Sword Legion’s Power Boost.

The Axe Legion, a Legion based on raw strength and defense yet slow attacks. Neutral Special will be Rising Axe, a slow yet strong overhead swing of the axe. Side Special will be Crash Bomb, the Axe Legion will send out an astral projection of its axe and it’ll impale the stage working like a bomb. Only two can be sent out and if it isn’t touched it’ll explode, like Snake’s grenades. Down Special will be Blue Shield, an all around shield protecting Legionis from attacks. It has a limited amount of uses and has a slow recharge time. When tanking attacks using the Blue Shield for 5 seconds, the shield will shatter. You have a total of 2 uses with the shield. And when sending out the Axe Legion for a ranged attack, the shield will follow with the Legion meaning you’ll be left vulnerable.

The Arm Legion, everyone’s favorite Jojo meme and a more up close brawler Legion. This Legion will be focused more on getting up close and will have a fair amount of super armor attached to it, it’s drawbacks are it’s slow startup, limited range, and it’s end lag when whiffed. Down Special will be Legion Armor, Legionis will wear the Arm Legion as a suit of armor and they’ll float and deliver slow yet strong flurry jabs while also delivering heavy damage. Side Special will be Gravity Storm, the Arm Legion will send out a sort of black hole, sucking the opponent into the hole. It has limited usage, meaning it’s something to be preserved. You have 2 uses with this as well. It’s both ground and aerial ok. Neutral Special will be Rocket Punch (original move yet unoriginal name), it’ll launch its arm off to the opponent like a Samus Missile but stronger (not the heat seeking version). It can be angled into directions like Simon and Richter’s whip, but it can be reflected or dodged.

Now here are some extras. The grab of all Legions will be the Auto Bind, wrapping the opponent in chains and keeping them stuck to the ground. The Auto-Bind will be the most unique, since this grab allows you to more actions instead of pummeling, like doing Dual Hit Rush or Howl. This would be the one character with the longest grab range, going half of the stage, something like Pokémon Stadium 2. Last thing I wish to talk about is the Perfect Roll mechanic. In Astral Chain, doing a Perfect Roll allowed you to counterattack with the Legion. I’d like the same mechanic to be in Smash as an entirely new gimmick for the twins. Another addition I want to add to this gimmick is the Perfect Dodge. So when you perfectly spot dodge something like a dash attack, Legionis will glow and when you press A you can counterattack with a two part kick. The drawback with this is that it can’t be thrown out super crazy, certain moves like flurry attacks can’t be perfect dodged. Perfect Roll also has it’s drawbacks, trying to perfect roll something like Sephiroth’s Octoslash will counter the counterattack. Perfect Rolling multi hit moves is basically saying it won’t happen.

SPECIAL Down Special

Now remember how I didn’t go into base Legionis’ Down Special, here’s how I made things. The Down Special will be Legion Fusion, SPOILERS AHEAD!
In the game the protagonist you choose gets the power to fuse with it’s Legion’s core. How it’ll work in Smash will be a semi charge sort of way. Legionis will be put in a special animation for 5-6 seconds and they’ll become the Fusion. This transformation sequence won’t have invincibility frames, but it will have a field at the end that’ll make the opponent fly kind of like Joker when using Rebel’s Guard. This’ll be active like Joker’s Arsene, it feels like it’ll last forever but it only lasts like 25 seconds. Taking damage will deplete the meter and they’ll un-fuse, this is only available once per stock and when the meter depletes fully, the Legions will be back and fully charged. Small note, the Legions will be disabled when using the Down Special.

Moves, aerials, and grabs for Fusion will be changed as well. Neutral Special will be a charge type move, like Pikachu Side Special. It’ll fly forward give a strong and fast slash. Side Special is Madness Flurry (my own name) giving a feral and wild flurry of slashes. Down Special will be a screaming explosion seen in the home game. Up Special will be Astral Speed, Fusion Legionis will be like Pikachu’s, using its speed to zip on stage or in air as recovery. They’ll go at a slightly shorter range though but it has 3 times to zip around instead of Pikachu’s 2 times.

Forward Air is a simple slash like Wolf’s but the speed is slower, Up Air is like Ridley’s Up Smash where they’ll use their foot to let out an attack, Back Air has a 360 slash rotation, and Down Air is like Wolf’s where they plunge their claws downwards.

Pummeling when grabbing will be the Fused Legionis using the knee as usual. Forward Throw is like Wolf’s, Down Throw will slam them to the ground and will be followed up with a downwards to upwards slash motion, Up Throw will be a short up throw but it’ll end in a Greninja Up Smash animation with no disjoint but it does have kill power, and Back Throw will be a small back throw but with a shimmy motion and a Wolf Forward Tilt ending.

Final Smash: The Final Smash for Legionis will be the 5 Legion Attack you do on Noah Prime, and for the final slash I thought what you could do is when you fought your first big Chimera and you did that incredible slash when you slid under the truck with your Sword Legion. For Fusion Form, it’ll be like in the Fusion Akira vs. Fusion Protagonist fight but has a lot more flair and look to it.

Stage: The stage for the Legionis will be Harmony Square, and soon an Astral Rift will open in the sky and you and your opponent will go through it. The stage will now be in the Astral Plane, with various chimeras fighting in the background and Hal flying around.

Classic Mode Route: So this was hard to come up with, but I had decide to make something similar to Joker’s Route (sorry if everything is like super Joker related). The route will be related to Chimeras, the main enemy you fight against in Astral Chain. They mostly have chalky white skin, but let’s not focus on colors. The name of their route will be called Savior of the Ark. All fights will have fighters that have mostly whiter alts fighting in Harmony Square. The final boss will be between Master Hand & Crazy Hand in the Astral Plane part of the stage in Ω form. When defeating the boss, a nice reference will happen when on the shooting stage, the not remixed version of The Answer will start playing.

I hope you enjoyed what I wrote, coming up with stuff like this was sort of hard but pretty fun. Making home game references and such is nice.
