Do you think that airport security should be stricter or looser?

I think that it should be a little bit looser. They should still have people empty their pockets and get scanned and check their suitcases, but not so extensivly as they are right now.

Well you all obviously heard of 9/11, right? THE FRICKIN PLANE CRASH INTO THE TWIN TOWERS!!! HELLO!!!!

Well after that they have really tightened up security. It takes an esitmated 1 hour more than it did before the crash. Now you have to arrive really early to go to get your baggage checked. My friend told me it was real d!ck in there. They now even request some people to take off their shoes to make sure nothing is hiding in it! (Remember some guy hid plastic exlposives in his shoe then tried to light it on a plane...the passangers stopped him).

I flew and the wait wasn't that bad.... The only thing that happened was that if you beeped once on the metal dector you had to take your shoes off. They don't let you have mini-flashlights too, and a lot of junk that they would have let slide before.

well, I think there's a neccesity for it, don't you? Why post this topic? Its a stupid question to be honest. Of course they're going to make things tighter and they're not going to let up on things, especially around this time. They're just adjusting to recent events and making sure things like this wont happen again. thats all.

True, they should tighten up, but should they KEEP it this tight? They make more and more saftey things for us to do...take off our shoes, empty out everything in our pockets, etc. When will it stop though? Will they have to put us up against a wall and search us like a cop does? Should they do this or should they lighten up after a year or two?

The stricter the better, we don't whant another 9/11/01 to happen again. But still stricting airport security is problably a waste of time, terrorists can attack at any time, any place, any where,at any moment, and in different ways. Still it is a good idea to tighten airport security.

Yeah, I figure it should be kept the same or made a bit tighter. So what if you have to get there an hour earlier, if you're taking a plane somewhere you've no doubt planned well, it's only a minor inconvenience to lower the risk of hijackings, stabbings, shoootings, and whatever. I could see that if somone who flew often would get fed up with it, but the security should benefit the majority according to time consumption.

I actually heard from something (possibly just a joke) that they could put mean looking dogs, like German Shepherds or something, at the gates. That way, the terrorists would be scared and wouldn't attack. Of course, the dogs would be regular, everyday dogs, not police dogs. <img border="0" alt="[Chuckle]" title="" src="graemlins/chuckle.gif" /> That would look funny.

*blink*

That has got to be one of the more dumber ideas, right up there with buildings that can dodge incoming planes.

They got dogs now, mostly sniffing for drugs or explosives.

If it needs to be this tight to prevent more terrorist attacks, I think we should keep it this tight. One hour won't hurt, and it's better than having thousands more dead.
But think of this: If we didn't have to take off our shoes, then people could sneak in as they did before, and another hijacking would occur.
For now it's good.

actually i flew to NY [im in the hotel using my Dreamcast to get on the net ^^] and I didn't encounter any problems. Even when security saw my DC in my suitcase, they were like "is that a computer?" and I said "Sega Dreamcast" and they let me through [remember, I was flying to NY, ground zero itself]. So I thing airport security is fine, I didn't hafta take off my shoes, or have dogs sniff my bags or anything. Just walk though the meteal dector, empty pockets, and scan luggage, just like before [only more security gards walking around, that's all]. Airport security is fine as it is now, if not better. [wow, this took forever to 'type

Airport security is whacked. They wouldn't let a guy through because he was wearing a Congressional Medal of Honor, and he wasn't allowed to carry anything sharp and pointy on the plane. Another guy had to give up his bullet keychain because, "it looked like a weapon."

When these idiots are pulling stuff like this off, I have to question their abilities, and sanity.

Granted, it's a bit silly when they start pulling the kind of stuff Gamer mentioned above. But I'd rather they were overzealous and did their job too well, than not well enough - "Oh, you're a postman? Sure, take that boxcutter with you."

Since the 9/11 attacks, everyone's been paranoid. And when they're paranoid, no one is thinking of a sane middle ground. They are thinking that they have to check every little crack and every little hole. My friend went on a place and had to be checked so extensively that she almost missed her flight (because she had underwire bras, so they saw weird wiring in her suitcase...). It's kind of stupid, but it makes the general public feel safer so there isn't mass panic. I feel a little better too. Better to be safe than sorry. Or something like that.

That's the problem, people only feel safer, but they aren't any more safe than before. I know how they check you out, and I'm confident that if I were a terrorsist, I could still blow up a plane. It's not all that hard, a plane has many weakpoints that can be taken advantage of if you just study them for a few minutes.

All this airport security is tripe. A theatrical show to make people feel safe, when they are probably in no less danger without it.

I really don't think that there will be many more planes hijacked out of the US due to the hostility people feel toward it. If another plane was blown up people would feel more anger than fear and many countries would act swiftly to attack them. For now I think that our current system will keep some people less afraid to fly and help our country gain money and feel more secure.

My Encounter With Airport Security
I flew out of New York last week. I did not have any trouble with the airport security. I put anything that could possibly considered a weapon into my checked bag. You don't really need a pocket knife, razor, cork screw, meat cleaver, exc. for even a 12 hour plane ride.

There was only one check-point I had to go through. I had to show my photo id a couple times, but that doesn't take more than a secound or two. That is were I think that airport security is really lax.

I used a student id I got from my school. All it had was my name, graduation year and a picture. When I got it from my school they did not even bother to check to see if I was an actual student. I could have made a better one at staples.
