What aesthetic details, big or small, would you like to see changed in 3.0 or beyond?

There's one thing I can't stop focusing on every time I watch Project M videos, because my game is different. You may have noticed there's a little "wooshing" or wind sound effect that kicks in when a character is launched, but not KO'd.

Personally, I think it's an unfitting addition and needs to be removed completely. It seems to me like it makes no sense in terms of audio aesthetic quality, and sounds silly, but not in the Smash-esque way. What I did like was the sound effect in SSB64 where, upon falling closer to the bottom KO border, there was a sound, but it wasn't this out of place wind.

However, this is just my opinion. I'm not sure if anybody cares for it or not. I will say that after I removed it from my game, it only sounded unnatural to hear it again in videos.

Aesthetic I'd REALLY like to see in 3.0? Slashing sounds for Marth that are more similar to Melee. Maybe not the same soundclip, but I think Marth would be a lot more satisfying to hit with when audio cues like the ones in Melee are present.

Also, nice picture.

Would be nice if it was possible to edit Lucas' PK Freeze clip to be shorter and apply it to his sideb.

I'd like one of pikachu's tail attack to be Iron Tail... Seriously, just pikachu's tail looking metal for a second and the metal sound when it hits. That's it.

Ya can always use the Melee SFX from the Melee SFX Project in the Customized Content-board. There's one for Marth which I had downloaded.

There's something to be said about inclusion of something like that in an official release instead of just doing it yourself. It's like how you can always keep replacing Mario Circuit with the Bowser's Castle stage, but as of right now, that's not going to mean a thing when you go to tourneys.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the idea that Lucas needs to shout another move name out. PK freeze is a pretty common move and I'd hate to hear the sound bit overused. I'm sure if you looked in the smashbros_sound.brsar for the sound file they used to replace "PK fire" from Brawl, you could edit that to use the shortened PK freeze clip if the pmbr never changed it, though.

a modified controller config screen/button check stage would be nice, having all this bright stuff in the face of an otherwise more dark-toned theme looks weird

I'd rather they take the PK Thunder clip out to make Lucas sound better. In regular play without FS, he keeps yelling that over and over again. It feels out of place when his other attack yells got the cut and I feel it'd be better if it got replaced with one of his attack grunts, like how Ness sometimes grunts when using PK Fire except all the time.

I could see the new training stage being used well for that, similar to how wifi waiting room and button config are basically the same in vBrawl but without edges.

I was considering that as well. But I unfortunately don't call the shots in the aesthetics department. I can deal with PK thunder having a clip though.

I honestly cannot stand Brawl's "shine" sounds for Fox. It bugs the heck out of me, but I'm too lazy to add the Melee sound effects for the shine!!!

Actually truth be told, I thought the Smash 64 shine sound effects were the best.

Hopefully that'll become easier to deal with when the RSBE is released with 3.0

If so, you can count on me editing a few more things.

Bring back the "boing" sound effect for Mario's jump. His voice is too squeaky.

Yo, I see you live in SC, join the group in the regional zones.

It was mentioned in another thread but I think it'd be cool to give Ness his 64 PKT2. Like just the animation of him launching. Not the hitboxes or anything. Though if he changes his position I'm sure the hitboxes will need to be altered and... Bleh.
I'd be down for Lucas sometimes not saying PK Thunder. But not ALL the time. I'm already sad that he lost his side-b voice.

No idea how difficult or feasible this is, but how about if ROB's Up- and Side-B utilize the Stack Up attachment as a booster? This could even actually have a practical application, if the number/color of disks could be made to indicate the amount of remaining boosts.
It's always bugged me that Smash's ROB bears so little relation to anything. In particular, only one of the two ROB-compatible games is represented, and only for one move. This would be a good way to slip the other in, as well as provide some distinction from the other Burner-using animations. As a bonus, it supplies a cute pun for move names: Up-B as Stack Up, Side-B as Stack Side, and running out of boosts as a Stack Overflow.

Pit’s Up-B never made sense to me. He throws up a shield, which delivers large knockback and propels him upwards (despite otherwise having wings). Just seems like a placeholder move. I think a viable property-preserving replacement is his death animation from Of Myths and Monsters. The sweetspot could be a haloesque burst of light, and it even provides its own special fall.

BellyZard was the premier charizard set, and pretty much the only one to be close to viable, so I think a Belly Drumming taunt would be cool, and his Side Taunt is pretty substandard, anyway.

I’m still of the opinion that, in the spirit of bringing everyone to their Melee roots, the starter pokémon should be given their Melee pokéball counterparts’ animations. Use as winning animations seems best at this point, since Ivysaur still lacks one and one of Charizard's is basically the same as one of his taunts.

Pikachu’s 64 fthrow is just cool, and would fit for Squirtle.

I never thought Olimar’s Win2 animation was fitting for his character. His character from Pikmin, I mean, where he is an intellectual everyman, rather than Brawl, which decided he’s a bumbling coward. No replacement suggestion, though.

I think most of this stuff would be in the "beyond" category, though…

I agree with most of this stuff, my main qualms with the "argument" (not really an argument) are with the Pit's Up-B. Please note that I have not playing any Kid Icarus games. The shield was to nerf Pit's recovery a bit as keeping his brawl WoI wouldn't have worked. I do agree that some aesthetic things added would be nice such as Pit flapping his wings hard and the sweetspot indicator. My main problem with Pit's Up-B at the moment is that it doesn't reflect projectiles, I know it sounds dumb but reflecting stuff from above would make sense and would be somewhat convenient in competitive. If a Link AGT'ed down and Airdodged the explosion and zaired you from the hitstun. You would've been able to Up-B it (Yeah, It doesn't sound useful to me either.... Maybe if you're recovering?). Maybe it's just me being nitpicky.

I just meant that the using a shield to jump sounds an looks ridiculous, and that Pit could keep the same Up-B with a new animation by having him die upwards

Also, I've a suggestion for Mewtwo's entrance that might actually be simple enough to be implementable by Demo 3. An oft-forgotten, but ever-present standby of Mewtwo’s learnset: Mist. Simple, stylish, neat, and effective; it corresponds nicely with the other Event 51 veterans’,and it’s something that’s empirically shown to make an impression

I just want characters attacks to correspond with their Alt Colors like Lucario's aura, Sonic's spin dash, Yoshi's eggs, ECT.

Probably impossible, but I'd like to see Wario's pummel produce rings instead of coins when used on Sonic.

Oh, and DK should shout "Banana Slamma" when using a fully charged Giant Punch, similar to Ike's "Prepare yourself" when using his Fsmash.

Yoshi's eggs change color in 3.0, this has been demonstrated in livestreams.

I'd also like to see a color changing spin dash and aura. It's a possibility with the new costume engine though, so fingers crossed!

Well i gave a good and similar suggestion about SFXs in this thread, im sure you would like it.

That said i would like to see Samus' Arm Cannon animations when she fires missiles just like in Melee.

Change Ganon's grounded Warlock Punch to the Ground Punch he does in Ocarina of Time, sometimes called "Earthquake Punch."

Maybe a new main menu background? the current one is cool but i would like to see one that matches better with the CSS.

I understand that theres already a thread about this, but since this is aesthetic in general, i'd like to see the PM camera being more like melee, it just doesn't zoom in or move around as much as melee's camera, and well theres times i literally get sleepy watching PM vids bc of the camera, its just too wide and you can see everything happen without the screen moving all around and what-not

i guess a good comparison between melee and pm camera would be a war movie

think about it, in a war movie, its not boring bc your in it obviously, same way when you play melee/pm its not boring to you since your the one there

BUT how about the people watching the movie? The war movie wouldn't be as good or it couldn't emphasize the action well enough if the camera was always fixed or was always put in a wide perspective with minimal movement from the camera. When you compare that to another war movie that really gets close to the "action" with the camera, its usually a much better and entertaining experience for the person watching

  • Make Luigi's green fire ball light opponents up in GREEN fire instead of red fire like mario's
  • Remove the character names within the character boxes in the character select screen. It's really redundant when it says their name in the character select box already, and plus it just clutters the already large cast in the character select screen
  • Ivysaur. 3rd win animation. Do It.

Yeah, I've also brought up the SFX in a thread a few months back, but it was a pretty specific thread revolving around those sfx specifically, and it didn't really same to catch on.

Honestly, Samus' Brawl sfx in general to me feel like they need to be replaced. Her movements sound a stick slashing in the wind, not a heavy metal limb in Brawl compared to Melee. I have a feeling the pmbr won't make a ton of changes to a specific character's sounds though. Too many people would complain I would imagine

Something in the "universal" category, I could see. Putting in the high % hit sfx would add something to the game instead of modifying/taking it away.

The menu, I agree, could use a new background. Looking at it the other day, I noticed that in particular the grid lines look a bit boring, and thick. Perhaps they could be downsized and animated to have a colored-light travel through various sections of them?

I agree about the camera, by the way. I'm used to it since I've played more Brawl/PM than Melee, but something about Melee's camera moving with Marth's sword when he jabs and being up close when the players are close just feels right.

I also agree with the camera.
And about the background i would like something, say digital, like the melee one but not the same (to give more originality) because to me the current Project: M background looks a bit generic.

I like the current background. It could just be... better.

Perhaps the gridded purple/indigo we have now, but with hexagonal grids?

All I want is for Ike to not say prepare yourself on f-smash anymore. Move that fan-moddy crap to a taunt easter egg.
