What is it?

After watching Holy play R.O.B. at GOML, I realized, there are professional R.O.B.s that don't know about this technique so I decided to make this short guide so that more R.O.B.s will start using this tech.

Reverse Gyro Down Throw is a tech where you throw the gyro down in the opposite direction in which you were facing.

Practical Applications

Imagine running towards your opponent, then without stopping, throwing down the gyro and reversing your direction. But Vexel, this sounds stupid and useless! Not at all! This is a better alternative for doing gyro setups on the ledge than rolling to the edge of the stage and throwing down your gyro. If you need proof of this, look at how quick Mr. Eric is able to set up his gyro in this match.

Notice how Mr. Eric is facing left, then runs left towards the edge, but as soon as he throws down the gyro, he's facing right, causing his gyro to hit DJ Jack to the right, and into Mr. Eric's up smash. This would not have been possible if Mr. Eric tried to set up the gyro by rolling to the edge due to R.O.B.'s somewhat slow roll.

How to actually perform a reverse gyro down throw?

The technique is actually super simple. It's just a jump-cancelled glide toss. However, you have to control the direction you're throwing the gyro.

When running right: :GCDL: then immediately :GCX: then :GCA: to perform the jump-cancelled glide toss.
When running left: :GCDR: then immediately :GCX: then :GCA: to perform the jump-cancelled glide toss.

Other Applications

You could use this technique to mind game the opponent. You could run towards them, reverse down throw the gyro near them, then back away to prepare for an up smash. I find that people sometimes run forward and trip into the gyro when they see you back off which can lead to an up smash for the K.O.

It's basically just a rar jump cancelled gyro down toss.

This is a great and simple technique than not many people know of. Thanks for writing this guide.

Yea! Don't leave home without this technique. It really speeds the kill setup and gives ROB a more viable kill option.
