Acting a Race [Serious Topic]

I was unable to post in the debate hall cuz i dont have that priviledge but i guess ill bring it up here:

Lately because Barack Obama has been running for president the question has been raised is he black enough? people are questioning that he may be too "white" to win the black vote.

i find this idea completely perposterous. If you are born of African American parents (meaning parents whos ancestry has come from africa or other central equator countries) then you are black. if so the fact that u grew up in harlem or detroit and u've been through several tough times and u turned out a gangsta thug who sells drugs and makes money offa robberies or gambling u are black. or the fact that u were born in New York in the lower east side raised with alot of money earned a college degree and have never used the word ***** in your life u are black. the idea of "being black" has become a generalization with the idea of acting out wat is shown in rap videos and in the streets. This is not true. It just so happens that people who are black are born in these neighborhood because of previous events by their parents. The reason they act the way they do is not because they are black, but it is because of how they were brouoght up and what they were surrounded by.

I am losing my train of thought because im currently surrounded by a buncha ****** but please respond to what i have so far.

Oh, and Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, George Washington Carver, Booker T. Washington, and all those people must not have been "black enough" either so screw being black enough.

This topic contradicts itself.Being black these days are in ties with steriotypical activity in urban society.

It's not about being"Black Enough",that is just a general term for conceptual thoughts.

Thats totally true. and the black people that are saying that he is not black enough are literally trying to make black people look bad.

you are completely right, being black means you have dark skin, nothing more other than the heritage you came from; it shouldn't suggest the way one talks or acts.

I find people who make comments (or names) about people based on race or religion ********, even when it's about themselves. All it does is create distinctions that people are diferent because of said things.

i could clarify why i have this name but i'd rather not bring it up here. regardless varuna i agree with you and Eternal phenix fire the whole point of this thread is that i dont like that idea.

being black should not be related to the activities of urban society. that is just wat one group choses to do. that group happens to be black but it doesnt mean every person has to act that way to be black.

being black is nothing but your heritage/ skin color nothing more.

Barack's mother was from Kansas. Maybe that's what they mean by not being Black enough. He only has one parent from Africa.
