About random online players

I don't know if this been said so forgive me for not seeing it.

I'm like you wanting to have names for the character names and knowing who your fighting against. This may not help much but... Seeing how you can put anything in your custom taunts. You can probbaly no and 100% sure you can put your name in there like " Ha you got beat by Jason Kid05!"
or " This is Sonickilla!!" . It may not help picking certain people to fight but at least you can still who they are heh, theres always a way..

Edit: lol i just saw the taunt thread. Well hopefully someone was thinking the same thing.

This is one of the mistakes Sakurai made when he brought Brawl online. I'd recommend that he correct this before release, b/c to me it doesn't make any sense at all

Same here. I'd actually like to know what was the reason behind NOT having names and ATLEAST showing taunts. I don't see how theres a problem with showing text in a taunt bubble for anonymous play.

then again it is his game, and he is a professionial who has been in the gaming industry for a number of years now, So I'm basically an idiot who doesnt know what he is talking about compared to him.

That's where you are wrong. We are the ones buying his game and even those he's making it, he has to appeal to us gamers. What would his game be if no one bought it? I don't see what's wrong with letting people see the usernames ortaunts either and we do deserve an explanation. You are not an idiot, but a fan who wants to speak their opinion of which Sakurai should hear. He should've asked for idea submissions before just deciding to do online his own way.

He's afraid taunts and names will be used for bad stuff, like putting porn-related stuff in your names or taunts, which is bad for little kids. Taunts can be understandable in some way, but names....seriously....

Anyways, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just go to the Smash IRC channel, and ask everyone there for friend codes. If you have about 70 people in your address book, you'll always have somebody to play a real match with. Seriously, I think that with friend codes, the online system will be very big. But they'll probably limit it too much in the anyonous mode.

And people won't do that on "With Friends"? It's a bad decision that needs to be corrected. People could do th things you just said on the "With Friends" mode, so I don't see the difference.
