I know this idea has been thrown around a few times on this forum, and has been subsequently laughed at, but I believe John Madden has earned a place in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

The Madden NFL series is arguably the most popular video game series in the world, releasing games from 1989 to this year, and bringing together the most hardcore gamer with the most leisurely fan.

Furthermore, John Madden has been on the SNES, Nintendo 64, Every type of Gameboy, Gamecube, DS, and Wii. In fact, the Madden Franchise is the most well known 3rd party game to pledge it's allegiance to the Wii, releasing a very fun Wii Madden for the last two years, and setting the standard for what Sports on the Wii should be like.

Combining abilities from football players, coaches, and commentators, roles that Madden throughout his life, I made an early sktech for a moveset, it's not great because I did it in the middle of a boring math class, so feel free to comment and improve upon it...

Speed: Same as DK
Weight: Heavy
Throw: Very Good
Jumping: Poor

A: Form Tackle- Madden charges his shoulder into the opponent 3-5%
-2nd Tap, Madden grabs and lifts the opponent, doing no damage but incapacitating for .5 secs
-3rd Tap, A Tackle to the ground, doing 5-8% and stunning the opponent for 1 sec.

^A: Headbutt 5-8%

vA: Cut Block- Madden dives at the opponents knees, knocking them to the ground and stunning for .5 secs, 4-6%

</>A: Rip Move- Throws a quick punch in the air doing 2-4% damage and causing him to dodge all projectiles for the next .5 secs

Running A: Truck Stick- Runs through opponent for 8-12%, decent knockback

Smash </>A: Gatorade Shower- 10% (splash damage) and freezes opponent like Ice Climbers B attack

Smash ^A: Ball Hawk- Interrupts Projectile and Counters to Sender

Smash vA: Field Goal Kick- 2 Second Charge and then a 15-20% Kick with High Knockback (set up with Gatorade Shower)

Nair: QB Vision- For 2 Seconds Madden scans field with QB Vision Cone, and then pelts anyone caught inside with a ball for 10%

Uair: Field Goal Block- Madden jumps foward into opponent, dealing no damage but spiking himself and the opponent on a diagonal downward, can be used as a suicide kill like Kirby's swallow, though is risky because if Madden misses he can't recover (unless he lands on stage)

Fair: Diving Tackle- 5-8%

Dair: Cleat Kick- 10-15% Meteor Spike

Throw A: Knees to Chest- 2-4%

Throw </>: QB Heave- 10%

Throw ^: Punt- 15% and high KO ability

Throw v: Hit Stick- Devastating Powerbomb like Tackle for 15% + 1.5 sec stun

B: Precision Pass- 5-15%, hold down for more power

^B: Instant Replay- Madden uses his infamous yellow anaylsis marker to draw arrows that launch him back to land (pretty much firefox), 10-15%

</>B: Horse Trailer- Madden hops in his famous bus and speeds across the map for 15-30% damage and devastating knockback (hold down for more power/speed like Jigglypuff B)

vB: Padding- Madden dons full pads, making attacks on him phantom attacks, and giving him 50% more weight, but also reducing his speed and jumping by 50%, lasts for 15 seconds and has a 45 second cooldown

Final Smash: Lead Blocking- 5 Offensive Linemen Spawn at left side of maps and charge across, driving everyone off the edge and doing 35% damage, high knockback though opponents can recover if they don't get KO'd.

Entrance: Madden sits in booth with Al Michaels and breaks down the upcoming brawl

Taunt: Madden makes a Heisman pose and yells his patented "Boom!"

Shield: He hops into full pads that get broken off as he is attacked

Air Dodge: Madden pulls a spin move

Costumes:
Philadelphia Eagles uniform
Oakland Raiders Coach Attire
Commentator Attire
Regular Jeans and a button down shirt

The image of Madden chasing after pikachu made me laugh hard. I'm sold, but then again I'm easy. >_<

As sweet and awesome as this Madden idea is, I must say no because:

A: (American) Football is not popular in Japan even close to as much as it is here.
B: He would make a far better announcer think about it:

BOOM!

This might be the randomest thread ever. I'm not sure if the creator of this thread needs to be smacked because Madden has below a 0% chance, or needs a medal of honor for having the balls to make this thread.

The Madden NFL series is arguably the most popular video game series in the world

excuse you??? in case you haven't noticed, The Madden NFL series is popular in America. Football is an American sport!!!! Also, many of the games for the XBOX 360 are only opular in America. i suppose you think XBOX is popular worldwide? wrong. the wii is pretty much the best selling console in the world. Xbox's american selling is huge, but, not suprisingly, the sales worldwide aren't as much as the wii. you could say... the Madden NFL series is arguably the most popular game in AMERICA, which makes more sense. my Xbox sentaces may seem random, but the same applies to Madden, though I'm not sure what game series replaces the Wii.

EDITED: are you calling the madden series a "pioneer"? if so you are terribly mistaken. a football game before madden that was immensly popular IN AMERICA was Techmo Bowl. sorry, but I think that came before Madden

I said arguably. I never said it was the best (I hold that nomination for Legend of Zelda), or the most culturally diverse, but if you look at pure number of games and the astronomical amount of money each game brings in yearly, Madden is bought by many more people worldwide (though it's mostly America) then any other series. Now if a new Mario, Zelda, Sonic, Metroid, Metal Gear etc etc game was released yearly, would they outsell Madden, that's a high possibility. But unfortunately that can't happen if you expect good games from those series. Therefore Madden, if you total every game in the series, is probably found in the most households worldwide, except for maybe Mario and LoZ since their fanbase is enormous in both America and Japan, and theyve both been around since NES.

Edit: Madden is a pioneer because without him there wouldn't have been real 11 vs. 11 football games until maybe the Playstation/N64, as he refused to sponsor a game that wasn't exactly true to the sport...Tecmo Bowl which I've played and enjoy immensely for what it is, is 9 vs. 9.

Also Tecmo Bowl sn't breaking new ground year after year, I'm sure that you'd agree with me there.

MEah, most Sport games are crap anyways. The only real sports games I play are classic ones [NES], and Fight Nights. It's a light gamer and non-gamer paridise, but it appeals to some dedicated gamers I suppose. Still, Madden has done virtually nothing for gaming, other then sports games, and making the online console gaming community bigger. And do I need to point to SamuraiPanda's affamed translation thread=??? And Madden barely improves from game to game, really IMO. It's not like other sports games, like Fight Nights, to Fight Nights 2004, and to Fight Nights 3, where it used the basic fighting system since Punch-Out!!, made the first good new one, and then made it near perfection.

It really isn't that important of a series to gaming, other then major sports fans. I myself love football [I haven't missed a Monday Night football game since like 2004....multi tasking FTW!], but Madden has 0% chance of even being added, mentioned, or brought into Brawl. Read SamuraiPanda's character inculsion rules from Sakurai himself, and you'll see wat I mean. This is one play you need to throw out of your playbook.

Smash is a Japanese franchise...American culture is worthless to them
You'd be right if it weren't for the fact you're completely wrong. The Japanese have invested much interest in American pop culture in the past thirty years. Baseball, fast food, hip hop, Hollywood movies, fashion, rock music...the list goes on. What was once Japan's heavily isolated society's opened up bit-by-bit in recent decades.

Japan got dat Madden.

Madden needs more Rep! As a bonus for unlocking John Madden, you recieve a preview of my upcoming "John Madden Swimsuit Calender" featuring 12 beautiful shots of Madden himself.

Actually, this has been a loooong-running joke of mine but it works great.

I say yes for John Madden!

I'm pretty sure this is supposed to be a joke, but that's an awful lot of time put into a joke. John Madden can't be in Brawl because he didn't originate in a video game.

Though he'd make a great addition, I don't think he fits the criteria that has already been put forth.

However, he is a shoo-in as an alt costume for Wario.
