And we wonder why Brawl hasn't got a complete, undisputable tier list yet.

if u dont like the placement of ur char then go out to trounies and win so u can up their placement. and y do you even care where they are placed on a list if ur just comma bish about it
No. No matter how good you individually do, your individual performance won't affect a tier list, unless you find some new, dramatically game-changing AT/strategy with your character.

Melee wasnt balanced by any means, that is why tiers existed.

Brawl is by far more balanced, and every character has strengths and weaknesses, however, player skill determines how one takes advantage of strength and avoids their weaknesses.

In effect, I agree with this thread. The characters are only as good as the ones using them, but some characters have REAL disadvantages that make them crap regardless. Ganondorf is a perfect example of that, he just suckksssss.

Although, tier lists are usually based entirely on individual performance, as they go by "who wins more often at tournaments", not "who is an all around better character". This is what really needs to change, and I think that is what OP means.
