A little help using GIMP

I have recently downloaded GIMP and would like to learn the basics of making a sig with one. Sure, I'll probably not make a good one, but I'll have some fun, and that's what matters.
Anyway, can people here please explain how to make a basic sig with pictures?

I use GIMP.

You look up GIMP brushes at http://www.deviantart.com/

then download them, move them to your brushes folder and presto! You have some really cool brushes and use them on any thing!

I don't use GIMP, but MarthMaster92 (aka CobraGFX) uses GIMP. He's a near GIMP god.

and i have to disagree with dinko. DON'T use his sig for reference.

Yeah brushes are cool, but filters, c4ds and usually the default things are the way to go. Also learn the layer modes.

to access them go to dialogues>layers. Then you can make your layers look differently testing out your options.

Follow the reference Black Waltz gave as Cobra is way better than my novice GIMP skills, but here's a decent example of what you can do in GIMP by following tips and tuts.

They may seem advanced now but you'll be able to follow them soon with practice. Dinko, i see the same style from you a lot so i recommend these tuts to you as well.

He doesn't hate you he just doesn't like your sigs, and thinks they suck, maybe don't brush over the render(s) and don't just pick colors and brush randomly maybe. . .

Maybe you should learn what makes an image look good before you dismiss his comments as nothing more than hate?

lol dismissing it as hate? Waltz is one of the better sig artists on the forums. Why does he have any reason to hate you? You should get off your style of render plop, random brushing, little flow, and random colors. Read up on some tuts. You're way too clingy to brushes. Filters are were it's at.

@OP: keep us updated on your progress with GIMP. Show us work and we can help you out. The all stars house o' sigs helped many people get started ^_^

i dont hate you. im just mean. i dont like to be mean, but i've seen most of your sig progress and it's hardly improving because you fail to take my advice and continue making the same mistakes.
