I just found out how to really play about a week ago like you so im in the same position. I'm having the same problems as you too. I think it will come with practice eventually so just keep practicing is what i think. That's what im doing anyway. If i am wrong, can someone please tell me.

Well, just press R/L one frame later than you would w/ mario. Comes with practice. My one piece of advice to new wavedashers, is to let go of R/L asap when doing it. Just press and release as fast as you can.

Falco's wavedash is a funky one... His jump starts up more slowely than most other characters in smash.

The advice I always give people on wavedashing/waveshining with Falco, is that the button inputs have a very specific rhythm.

Go into training mode and work on doing your wavedashes as slowly as possible. In other words, try to air dodge at the last possible moment.

When you finally get one right, make a mental note of the rhythm of your button inputs.

From that point on... Practice, practice, practice.

Wavelanding is more difficult w/ falco because he falls faster. Fortunately, I learned to waveland with fox, so i'm good.

Wavelanding is GREAT for mind Games SH-> shine infornt of opponent->DOuble Jump over opponent->Waveland to opponent-> Connect shine.
Seems like Alot but REALLY helpful

BTW I find it easier to waveland when I fastfall

No, don't connect the shine. If you're looking for good combos, just look at the vids people ask you to rate. They usually either have good tech skills or nice combos, hardly ever both.

On the contrary, good combos are a direct result of good tech skill. What you don't frequently see is good tech skill/ combos & good mindgames/ mental game.

if you're shielding too much after the wavedash, you're holding L or R too much (my problem). if you're having trouble getting distance, air dodge at a greater angle.

Otherwise the only other tip i can give you is to crouch while doing it. You'll see all the good falco's sliding along the stage kneeling. From there, it's just practice.

@Scotu: What I meant is that players usually focus on showing on flashy tech skills or actually comboing an opponent. I hardly see video's here of players who actually incorporate, say the WD into their game. I'm saying if you want to see good combos watch the vids, not if he wants to learn to combo in general.

You're right though, people here have bad mind-gaming skills. They usually leave themselves open for a good amount of time when they try to trick their opponents. It's a lack of common sense that's the downfall of many players here.

Now i am very comfortable with wavedashing its pretty simple after you the timing is right...I finally wavedashed 100 times in a row without messing up or crouching to do it. Now i just have to incorporate this into my game

Ima go watch some of shiz's videos

Excellent.. you appeared to have picked up wavedashing pretty quickly. There are many ways to use wavedashing, including but not limited to the ..

WAVEsmash,
WAVEshield,
ledge hop to waveland,
wavedashing backwards onto a ledge,
wavelanding onto/off a platform,
wavedashing out of a shield,

.. now, it's past 3 in the morning when I typed this, so this isn't the exhaustive list (if there is one, lol). All are more or less useful for competitive level of play in smash, so if you plan on taking Smash seriously, then I advise that you take these tactics seriously as well.

These tech skills, all associated with the wavedash, are not difficult to pick up. The real challenge is to incorporate these into your mindgames, which pretty much distinguishes the good from the great. :) As a user already said above, practice, practice, practice!

I think i was able to learn how to WD quickly is instead of doing it on a flat surface first i did wavedashed on a slope like the one on corneria then i moved to slopes that were less steep as the one before then finally i was able to do it on level ground.

and for the ledgehop to WD is it done by pressing down then up on the control stick then WD?
