Funny enough, I actually thought about this for ages. Mostly because the Regis are my favorite legendary group (and Regigigas is my favorite Legendary, period), but also because I thought it would make for a very interesting heavyweight concept.
Heavies usually have a few inherent design flaws built into their kit - they’re huge targets and are generally poor in the mobility department, be it from slow move speed, slow attack speed, or limited/predictable movement options. Ultimate started shaking this up - Ridley is a big body character but not super heavy, Bowser has great ground mobility and some armor, K Rool has projectiles and counters. But I think Regigigas could bring something super cool to the table - namely, the feature that makes Regigigas so hated by Pokemon fans, its awful ability Slow Start.
In Pokémon, Slow Start halves your speed and attack for 5 turns and then dumps it all back on you that turn, resetting the ability if you leave the battle or switch out. Well, how could that translate to smash? Regigigas starts every stock pitifully sluggish and hitting FAR below his weight class. But after an interval of time, he gets a bit faster (mostly just in terms of movement and aerial mobility, but hey if Steve’s gold weapons can make his moves faster, maybe that could work too...) and a bit stronger. And it keeps stacking until it caps (how many ranks and how long it takes I can’t really say since I’m not actually making this for real) and at full power, you’ve got a heavyweight who can chase you down AND swat you away like a fly. Of course, it does reset when you get KO’d.
Surviving to the maximum Slow Start powerup makes you a beast... but you have to survive that long in the first place. You’re still a massive heavy target. And to encourage aggressive play from opponents, give him a reflector and style it like Wide Guard to discourage camping and projectile spamming against the Titan. Throw in some weak but safe tilt attacks like long reaching slaps or punches to keep enemies at bay, and maybe even some armored moves to play defensively until you’re strong enough to steamroll them, and you’ve got yourself a gimmick. It creates a character that wins by surviving, but not in a way that enables camping. It promotes aggressive play against a heavy instead of camping them out as well, since you want to take them out quickly, while also giving the heavy tools to protect themself.
Aside from that, a few fun ideas-
-Crush Grip makes for an easy grapple move.
-Up B might be tricky to nail down, but I always envisioned it being Heavy Slam like a flying suplex a la Bowser. Maybe it’s a jump and body slam regardless of who’s around, but it actually has a grab hitbox at the start of the move so you can also take someone with you if you use it right next to them?
-Earthquake almost makes too much sense as a Down B.
-For a final smash, instead of using a specific move, what if Regigigas called on its legacy as the continent puller to rip up the stage in front of it (and anyone on it of course) and chuck the slab as far as it can?
Ok, I maybe went a little ham on this. I guess I got kinda passionate because Regigigas is one of my favorite Pokémon and it definitely gets a bad rep for its lackluster ability, but even more so because the golems get the short end of the stick from Gamefreak a lot. They’re one of the only legendary groups to not get a starring movie (the closest is a movie they lose top billing to Lucario AND Mew in); they’re the only Gen 3 legendaries to not appear in Brawl (which just seems deliberately rude); where a ton of legendaries are practically gift wrapped for you or a part of the plot, the golems had to be found by learning Braille and solving otherwise random puzzles; Regigigas gets saddled with a trash ability despite dozens of Pokémon having higher base stat totals, attack stats, and better abilities on top of all that... I just want my golem boys to get some respect. At least there’s the two new Regis to bring some light back to this group.
