150+ Defence ganondorf got me to master core, but I got absolutely destroyed
Defense Dorf is my new best score actually. Do two defense items and one attack, or two attack and one defense. With Ganondorf, your goal is to power through it. Most of them go down very easy.

@ Mario & Sonic Guy Mario & Sonic Guy Using these builds, Master Giant's push back attack ins't much of a problem. If your close, it wont mess with you. You can even jump at him and take the damage and still be OK.

PSA: What does Defense do: It mostly decreases the damage you take from attacks. I just did a match with Samus. One all defense and one all offense (so I sacked defense). It does effect how far attacks send you, but not by much. What defense REALLY does it reduce the damage you take from attacks. It may seem silly, but with no defense Samus, some attacks did 40 damage to me. It's easier to notice the difference when you have no defense. So defense effects both but the biggest change is damage. I'll try and test it with a human.

I can usually get to the master core pretty quickly by equipping the Home-Run Bat Agility Badge and the Fast Bat Smasher Brawn Badge.

I've already beaten classic with all characters from 4.0 intensity to 7.0 and I still can't get used to master core.

Alright, I just did it with Attack Ganondorf, and 1 defence equipment that brought my defence from negative to positive, good luck all!
Did you put any auto healing items on or did it not seem to be worth it? What attack did you spam?

No auto healers, I used alot FSmash on normal classic and UpSmash at Master Core, also alot of Down Airs (Stomp) That move is just amazing.

Me beating 9.0 with no customs is entirely luck when it comes to the final battle.
The path to it is easy though.

I managed to beat 9.0 Classic with Pit using an equipment set that gave me hyper smash attacks and critical hit capacity. The downside is that you have to be much more careful about your damage, as not only are you more susceptible to damage and knockback, but the CPU and bosses hit at a higher damage ratio.

Currently trying to do the same with Marth. The farthest I came was Master Edges (a fully charged Shield Breaker can take down Master/Crazy Hand after like 1-3 hits.) I use the same equipment bonuses as Pit. Easy Counter helps with predictable boss patterns and attacks.

9.0 Classic really is mostly luck/bad luck. I once attempted it with a +140 Defense Bowser. I got wrecked by Master Hand's card move because I couldn't move quick enough. I did beat it with Mii Fighter, Ganondorf, and at some point, Bowser.

The key is a desperate immortal/attacker badge combo. It makes you invincible for 7 seconds and have incredible damage output for 20 seconds when at 100%.

Yo any Olimar players...? I can't beat it for the life of me, and are there other ways to get equipment aside from Classic? I might have to spam some 8.0 intensity until I get some good gear. I just feel like most of Olimar's special moves are **** though, they seem to make his specials worse D:

I have no trouble beating 9.0 with Mii Swordfighter and Ike whatsoever, half of the battle is trying not to die to the swarm's sword mode usually.

Wii U's 9.0 on the other hand...

Yeah I find the sword pretty hard, actually I had quite a problem with Master Core too (the first human form thingy). I can't seem to find its hitbox sometimes although I only played against it once. Also what's the difference between Wii U 9.0 and 3DS 9.0?

The head is what you should be aiming for he's pretty simple once you've versed him a few times.

Wii U is a lot harder and when you 'finish' you get thrown into the smash maze (think smash run, with swarm enemies and 100% death lava)

Oh yeah I believe that was what it was, thanks for the clarification. I think Master Core was the ball...

@ Sir_Zedd Sir_Zedd
Thanks for the info! Yeah I only played against it once but I remember I kept trying to hit him but nothing was happening (or it seemed that way) and gosh the Wii U version does seem harder... just makes me wish I had a Wii U more ):

Let's not forget that just getting to 9.0 Master Core is brutal in Smash Wii U, as you don't have the option to take the easier routes like in Smash 3DS's Classic Mode. Likewise, there are a lot more strings attached with Smash Wii U's 9.0 challenges, which includes not losing "any" lives, not using customizations, and having to complete it solo within 12 minutes as Marth.

Smash 3DS only required you to complete intensity 9.0, and nothing more, and the easier routes at least make it possible for you to reach Master Core without taking too much punishment.

I managed to beat it as...Lucario?!?!?
Yeah, that was my reaction too. I used all standard moves except for the 3rd Up Special, and I maxed out my Defense.
I don't even use Lucario that much...(well now I do, but...)

Pop in with Yoshi with auto-healer, defense KO healer badge and another defense badge. Made most stages in Classic (until Master Core) a breeze. Even at Master Gauntlet, a handful of mistakes won't even knock me out of the stage that much or at least to one stock (and usually, that's me jumping wrong or really off my game). Just Down Air all day and it's pretty much a dead core. I even did this with Mr. Game & Watch and the Gauntlet went down a whole lot quicker thanks to the bucket.

But of course, it's a little less breezy on the Wii U version for challenges (use certain character without customs, no stock losing while on 9.0, all characters defeat Classic with 7.0+, etc) but I would say its a lot more like challenges than on the 3DS version we're talking here.

Finally got around to clearing 9.0 with the entire cast. Jotting down my scores for giggles.

Ganondorf | 1,014,170
Toon Link | 899,750
Samus | 834,470
Zero Suit Samus | 784,650
Pit | 778,980
Palutena | 719,990
Marth | 904,910
Ike | 810,770
Robin | 812,030

Charizard | 940,600
Lucario | 908,650
Jigglypuff | 789,650
Greninja | 813,570
Duck Hunt | 952,310
R.O.B. | 851,330

Captain Falcon | 867,710

Olimar | 794,480

Dr. Mario | 930,470
Dark Pit | 781,130
Lucina | 885,380
Shulk | 870,260
Pac-Man | 805,970
Mega Man | 941,870
Sonic | 813,480
Mii (Brawler) | 868,920
Quick Rundown:

Top 3
1. Ganondorf 1,014,170
2. King Dedede 973,880
3. Wii Fit Trainer 959,540

Bottom
Lucario 628,110 Palutena 719,990

For all characters I used the two highest-attack equips I had for them plus a Critical Hitter Brawn Badge, with the exception of Lucario who I used a defensive set on. In terms of ease of clearing, I think the top 3 scores match up with ease of use as well; the AI doesn't react well to Flame Choke and Warlock Punch's damage+superarmor are extremely useful, King Dedede has no excuse to die to Master Core when running Armored Jet Hammer, and Wii Fit Trainer can endlessly spam Jumbo Hoop and win every stage for free. Palutena struck me as the "hardest" character to clear with, but I feel Lucario's the worst for scoring due to the inherent nature of aura.

Without equipment or customs, I'm inclined to say Ganondorf (Flame Choke+Warlock Punch), Marth (Shield Breaker+tipper strength, maybe Counter depending on preferences), and Mega Man (Air Shooter, Metal Blade, Lemons) are the easiest to clear with.

EDIT: After trying an attack set on Lucario I broke 900k with him fairly easily. I guess it's defense sets that suck, not Lucario!

I personally have no problem getting to Master Hand and Master Core. My problem is beating it on 9.0. Clearly I'm lower tier.

Finally got around to clearing 9.0 with the entire cast.
I saw someone on a Twitch channel do that before the game even came out in the U.S.
