hi everyone, first of all: couldn't find a similar thread, that's why i start a new one.

though there is no definite release date for SSBB, we already know it'll be a 1-4 player game, which disappointed me a bit. in SSBM there were already a few event fights where you had to battle 5 enemies at once. since the wii is a high-capacity console it should be possible to let 5 or even 6 characters play at the same time. even if there are already 4 players using gc-controllers it's still possible to play with the wii controller.

what do you think? wouldn't a 6 player mode in SSBB be simply amazing?

greets

Supposily SSBB is going to be able to go online so that could also be a way how you can have 6 players at once ( which im really hopin they would)

maybe they might make a multitap or something for the wii?
BTW, melee could only do that because the enemies were are all really weak and took up less memory and stuff.

that online deal is a bit of a maybe, still, as far as I know.

As for 6 playters, that would call for larger stages, more programming, more memory, and in my opinion, very confusing gameplay.

Some of my friends get confused in four-player gameplay because everyone's in one spot beating each-other up. six people? I think it's a bit bit and all too unnecessary.

why 6 players? Why not 8? 3 v 3's? No, more likely it would be 4 v 4 if they were to add more players on...but then there would have to be ginormous stages. Still good to think about.

well, how about a special mode in which you can play with more than 4 characters at once? less animation, probably no cpu-players (since the AI appears to take a lot of the wii's power).
i presume that's a solution everyone would be comfortable with...?

i think six players will be cool but too hard to program so it will not make the game crash and it may be confusing but if u use an action replay u may b able 2

Actually, six players is already somewhat possible in Melee, where you can fight against five other computer controlled characters. Think of the team versus matches. Also, in debug mode, you can set your own matches with six characters.

Waiting arena? Where someone logs online and can fight while waiting for a match with someone? 10 people per waiting room? stop people getting bored from waiting and gets them a warm up before their match :)

hehe, didn't even think of such possibilities - that would be sweet ^^
but 10 players at once and that online.. i fear this could get laggy..

interesting thoughts, my favorite is the waiting room. just an infiinate time match, but i think it should stay down with not ten players, it would be laggy.

and for the original statement, the wiimote can not play brawl. it is for the GC controller.

and i agree with tron, 8 is a much better number despite the lagg problems with either 6 or 8 i can see.

and generally i think it'd be awesome, but it would really get too chaotic for average people.

edit: hahahha i can totally see a 5 metaknight, 1 pit match being the first to use that capability.

I think he meant that you can use the Wii classic controller...

Chaotic? Isn't that what Melee is about? The more the better :p . But then the lag. And memory. If only memory was not a factor. Then...Heaven :) . Seriously, memory is the problem thing :( . But back to the point, Chaos is what makes it fun.

How bout.....

4 GC controllers

2 Wiimotes.

Using Wiimotes cuold be kinda easy to use.
who wants to use a wiimote for smash?!?

actually, I'm not sure if a classic controller'd be great either, sigh, I wish nintendo could use the 360 controller, it's perfect for smash.

Is that a positive because I've been wondering about that?

Aside from that, the stage thing that seems to be the problem isn't really that much of a problem, being that I'm sure they have already considered the stages will need to be bigger. Plus, the original stages for Smash on the 64 were huuge.

It could be possible to connect to Wiis..
Like a LAN thing. I've wondered about that, but the camera would still have to be fixed on follow all of the characters at the same time, despite how many characters per Wii there was.

2 TVs?

WiiA/Tv 1-Fixes on 4 Players
WiiB/Tv 2-Fixes on 4 Players

So it should be the same.. just 2 seperate TVs..

But that would be to a disadvantage. If the camera is only on the four people from WiiA then the people on WiiB would be out of camera and can thus blindside the characters if the position is right. It may seem very unlikely, but it would have a mighty disadvantage.

I say so, for a stage comparable to the Zelda stage in Melee, if one camera only had WiiA people in it and one had WiiB people in it, it would pretty much be two seperate matches, and useless.

There shall be a way tho, you watch. And I'll bet we come up with it tonight. lol

Good point.. I didn't think about that.
If 8 players are on all screen at once.. I don't think it would be much trouble for the camera to pull back enough.
And so far the stages from what we have all seen in the trailers are medium and small sizes.

Well, I know that the one stage (pretty descriptive, huh?) seems monsterous. It's like a castle and I always forget, but I believe it's a Fire Emblem castle, and the characters all seem to be entering it from the left and then fight on top. Also, if I'm not mistaken, you fall through that roof and fight on the inside as well. It's in the first video for Brawl that was released if that helps.

Like I said, I'm not sure tho, because I haven't looked much into the game recently.

But yea, about the 8 players and the pullback of the camera, that shouldn't be too bad if the stage isn't so big that the characters become pea-size.

Possibly, there could be stages designed specially for 6-10-how many ever people play. They could have a docked camera (I believe that's the word), like in the Game & Watch level. That could actually be cool.

to whoever suggested a multitap earlier... nintendo would have to do some more programming for the wii to get it to recognize the new amount of controllers, and they would have announced it before wii came ot

LAN might be possible, but i suggest they just make a fixed camera mode, like in the previous mode(i think, because it might just be something about GAW's stage), they only thing that might be a problem is lack of memory ( but that is the same for all... innovation won't be godsend if you cant put in some more memory to back it up nintendo!)

Finally, Online mode would barely be possible, but due to the 0.1-1.0 lagtime (don't know how long it would take) it wouldn't be good for professionals

finally, stages... isnt the point of multiplayer to add unexpected surprises? i would want to play small stages, because then it would be more frantic

thats my 2 bits

probably no online playing at all?

err... sry folks, got another question that doesn't really fit the topic.

i've just done some research about ssbb and somehow i couldn't find any confirmation of an online-playing-mode.
on most websites it only says "it is confirmed that there will be an online-function".

the article on wikipedia states "As far as Wi-Fi play is concerned, Sakurai has confirmed some functionality. However, as stated in the Toukouken on the Japanese version of the Smash Bros. website, "there would be many hurdles to cross," and an online ranking system is unlikely to be implemented."

could this mean that it won't be possible to play against the rest of the world?
does anybody know anything about this?

Visiting from above.
No, we don't.

Please look around our site before starting random topics like this. You're looking for the General Brawl Discussion room. This is the CHARACTER room.

We already have a topic about adding more players, and we already have many topics about online functionality, just post in those already-existing topics in the correct room.
